“I’m just so happy that he would even take the fight against me. I consider him an ‘A’ level fighter, and I consider myself a ‘C’ level fighter, maybe a ‘B’ level because I just beat Houston trying to claw my way up to the top. So for him to take a step down and fight me, I’m greatly appreciative of the guy, who is someone I look up to as one of those top tier fighters.”

James Irvin comments on his upcoming fight with Rashad Evans at UFC 85 in London, England on June 7, which was all made possible because of an injury to former light heavyweight champion Chuck Liddell. “The Sandman” sounds surprised (and excited) that Evans accepted the bout because, as he puts it, the two are on different levels right now.

Wow, you don't hear fighters be that brutally honest too often...when speaking about themselves anyway.

Being from Sacramento, I know we don't have a lot to be proud of in sports, but James Irvin, Scott Smith, Tyson Griffin, and Urijah Faber are all proof that we aren't 100% cursed with our hometown heros, its nice that James is getting some more attention though, I think he is a great fighter with some really bad luck, and he overcomes it and flying knees people in the face, which more people need to do. He's definately right though, I was shocked that Rashad took the fight, but Rashad is probably looking at James like he's going to have an easier time than with Chuck anyways. I wouldn't agree with the whole top 5 statement that a lot of people were saying, the only person who actually gave people that impression was Dana White in the hyping of the fight, I think Rashad is definately up there, but I can think of 5 205 pound fighters easily who have earned a lot more respect and been up against a lot more upper handed fighters. I'm really hoping for this to be an exciting fight, it seems like the deeper Rashad gets into his career, the fewer fights like that he has, not to take anything away from his skills, I just think that the way he takes care of opponents is definately not a fan favorite.

im a rashad fan and i seen this interveiw yesterday on another site and was shocked he was so honest because when i heard about this fight i was furious that rashad got stuck fighting irvin, not that he's a can i see him giving rashad some problems, but the fact that if rashad wins big deal really who cares, irvin has got my respect, and just pointing out that nobody has mention how much of a man rashad is for taking the fight he didnt have to and if he losses down the rankings he goes

Im also a Rashad fan, but to be fair if he losses it wont bother me, simply because i also like Irvin, i just want it to be a good fight and for the best fighter on the night to win.

It's something different to hear but he doesn't sound confident at all he just seems happy to be there and that comment gives me the impression he's content to fight and isin't focused on the win.

He is humble, and he is saying this purely because he respects Rashad. If he didn't have the confidence to win then there is no way he would be where he is today. He believes he can win and he will train harder than ever.

Saying what he said will only boost his confidence and make him believe he has a better chance of winning than ever.

He just got done fighting, and did'nt expect this, at this moment sure, but get closer to fight time, after a few weeks, when all has settled and he realized yes this is a top 10 205er but he is still human. His confidence will be gained cant come so soon though.
