I like Brian Stann. I'm glad he is humble about his Silver Star that he earned, because honestly every officer that deploys to Iraq as part of a combat brigade gets one. Non combat units don't always get them, but infantry, artillery and tankers always do. (I.E. Not something like signal corps, supply corps, or a freakin water purification specialist)

The Marine Corps is so much better than the Army about promoting their martial arts program, and that is something I was always jealous about during my time in.

I can picture Brian Stann holding that belt for a long time in the WEC. Doug Marshall held it for a long time and Stann wrecked him.

thats not true... plus he got his with notes for valor.. you have to actually do something for the valor part./.

also.. what you are thinking of is the fact that ever Operations Officer (OPS O) gets a Bronze star if they are generally successful... I only know of 3 ppl to get bronze stars in the 31/2 years i was with the marines.. and that is My buddy Kittel.. my dead buddy henry, My old Company Comander and that is it.. I asssume the Ops O on my first deployment god one.. b ut the ops o s dont get Valor anything in the write up

I've seen a lot of silver stars and other merits handed out to people that didn't deserve them during this war. The idea behind that is about 90% of the reason why I got out of the military. Most E-7's and above in combat MOS's get a silver star or bronze star with valor if they participated in heavy combat.

I'm not saying all of them don't deserve it, or even that Brian Stann didn't deserve it. I'm just saying that he's humble and in the interview he gives credit to all of the men involved. Not like John Kerry who tries to act like he saved the world for example.
