As James Irvin celebrated his eight-second win over Houston Alexander, while his highlight reel “superman” punch littered the ESPN Sportcenter Top 10 plays, little did he know that less than a month later he’d be asked to fill in for Chuck Liddell to face light heavyweight contender Rashad Evans.

“Actually, I think I had a beer in my hands and I was still celebrating from knocking out Houston Alexander,” said Irvin in an interview with MMAWeekly Radio on Thursday. “I didn’t even see it coming, but I think as soon as they told me, I dropped the beer and decided I wanted to go train again.”...

I personally like the way James Irvin is handling the situation. he seems humble yet confident. from this interview he is starting to grow on me a bit and i'll definitely be rooting for him to score the KO.

Irvin wants to put everyone he fights to sleep haha.

But ya he's an exciting fighter, and I don't care much for Rashad so...I guess I want Irvin to win

Man I would love for Irvin to KO Rashad on the way in...Knees would set me off!! I wont bet on it though I just think Irvin is too under par when it comes to the ground game.

I'm always suspicious of a fight plan that says "I'm going to get him on the way in". Irvin's good, but unless he's an outstanding wrestler, I see no reason he should be so confident that he's gonna get back up when Evans takes him down.

I'll be routing for Irvin, but betting on Evans.

I agree, it'll go the distance and Rashad will win by decision.
