...Apparently [the UFC] is planning on purging the 185 and 205 divisions from the WEC. I suspect they will bring in a few guys from each division over to The UFC (Stann, Marshall, Filho, etc), and cut the rest off. Brian Stann has tremendous marketable potential if he's able to train full time, there's no way they're going to let him go...

is Zuffa going to do to WEC what it did to PRIDE and gut the venue while taking its stars?

as an MMA fan, do you have a problem with this? is this a good thing for the UFC? for the MMA community?

Remember that WEC really is little more than a UFC developmental territory. And it's good at 185-it's this or eventually the only guy that can really have a shot at beating Silva is Silva himself.

I don't see a problem with this as long as we get to see them fight. I want to see fighters who put on a good show fight more than once a year. If they do this they either need to cut the current UFC roster size, or maybe add some more fight nights, so we get a chance to see more fighters. This could also mean that the UFC is indeed close to a network TV deal and they are getting these guys to use for that.

I like WEC as a farm league. I would like to see them use it like a minor league baseball team. I don't want them to put all their eggs in one basket. I don't think this is necessary for the UFC to do. They would probably be better off focusing on fighters from other orgs. And offering them more money. It is inevitable they have to pay more.

OK the LHW division IS Stann...nobody else.

The MW division has some decent guys, Chael Sonnen and Paulo Filho could both be top guys. Bryan Baker and Perhaps Jesse Forbes could be given shots (one loss and their each gone though

I remember when at one time the MW division apparently had both Riggs and Mayhem signe to a fight...that panne dout nicely.

Welterweight has Condit. Larson still has lots of life left in him. Alessio could be given another shot.

Too much talent in that LW divison. (Varner, Rob, Hicks, Crunklinton, Ratcliff, and Karalexis)

FW--deep divison...Mark Homminck may want to consider going back up to 155 and returning to the UFC where he's 2-0...he's not finding any sucess at featherweight.

i personally have no problem with it as long as they keep the rest of the divisions (WW, LW, FW and BW). if they completely gut it then i believe it is bad for MMA however if the just purge these two division then i think it is better for MMA. with Filho and Sonnen at MW the UFC MW division would have gone from flat to static rather quickly. only a few short months ago people were complaining about the MW division, but now we have Demian Maia emerging, Bisping looking sharp, Almeida coming out of retirement and looking strong and with Filho and Sonnen the UFC MW division is revitalized. there are a lot of interesting matches now, however the only problem is who can beat Silva...and who knows maybe Filho or Sonnen is the one to do it...but i doubt it.

Haven't they both stated publicly that they are friends and wouldn't be interested in fighting each other ?

I don't think this is neccesary at all....why not just scoop some of the top talent out of the farm and into the big leagues....they did it with James Irvin and it seems to have done them alright (50/50). Who other than Filho, Stann, Sonnen and Mayhem are you going to get. It seems to me like a way for Zuffa to cut the payroll a little.

yes that is exactly what they are doing. they stated the UFC had too many fighters and were beginning to do cuts there, and now decided to purge out the LHW and MW roster of the WEC (their weakest divisions) and merge the best fighters from those divisions into the UFC. get it, purge and merge

This article isn't even legit. I mean it's a 50 word blurb with no sources.

"Apparently they are planning on purging the 185 and 205 divisions from the WEC." According to who? The bloody elbow??
