The day MMA fans hoped would never come is now here. The official cause of death of MMA fighter Sammy Vasquez, who died in November from injuries suffered during an MMA fight, was complications from blunt trauma to the head with subdural hemorrhage.

It's a terrible tragedy, but there have been deaths in almost every other sport...MMA as we know it has been around since '93, and even then with knees to the head of grounded opponents and stomps allowed there weren't any deaths. I think this sport is as safe as they can make it and safer than a lot of other sports, but anything can happen. RIP Sammy.
