Mauricio Rua is recovering in Brazil after surgery a few weeks ago on his knee.
"The surgery was very quick, lasted 50 minutes, was quiet," Rua told Sherdog.com. "Now I hope for healing and I think here in about two months I can return to training slowly, very cautiously."
The Brazilian light heavyweight ruptured the ACL in his left knee while preparing at his academy for a bout against Chuck Liddell . "Shogun" said he had tried to explode into a maneuver while training with Vitor Miranda , and his knee moved strangely.
"Depending on my recovery, I think that I can fight again in September or October," Rua said. "We always talked with Dana White and also would like to thank him because the UFC offered me a doctor, a physical therapist -- all to get me help. They have been very attentive with me."

I hope for a speedy recovery, but I also hope he doesn't try to rush back like he did the first time. ACL injuries, and knee injuries in general are hard to get over.

I really hope the #1 LHW in the world comes back to the form he had from his Pride days. I say take a full year off, hell go 16 months off.

I hope he uses those doctors offered by the UFC. I would much rather he go to the US for medical treatment.

Was this the same ligament and knee as the first surgery?

i dont hope for a "speedy" recovery, if he fights less than 100% hes not much good ala the forrest griffin fight, you cant speed up an ACL rupture which is the worst of all ACL injuries so when i hear ppl say this speedup business i cant help but think they have no idea how serious and bad his knee was during that fight and how much worse he injured it afterwords, you cant rush these things and if it takes him 6 months to a year to be 100% i say "take your time" not speedy recovery

In my experience, ligament injuries in general take months to heal because of the lack of blood that goes to ligamentous tissue. You can speed that up with physio, but it still takes a long time. It would be a shame if this ended his career.
