"I sent an email to (UFC and WEC matchmaker) Joe Silva when I thought I was competing with Paulo, and I just said 'Look, I'm going to beat up Paulo, and I'm going to call out Anderson,'" Sonnen said. "'Am I going to look like a fool, or does that interest you?' And he wrote me back pretty candidly, and said 'You're wasting your time. We're not going to inter-mingle the two promotions right now. You're not going to get to fight Anderson.'"
But with Zuffa seemingly holding true to its word to maintain the UFC and WEC as separate entities, Sonnen does not feel the door is closed on an eventual match-up with Silva. In fact, the soon-to-be 31-year-old Oregonian feels the bout is inevitable.
"My argument to Joe Silva was very simple," Sonnen reasoned. "I'm the only guy under Zuffa contract, one with the courage to fight (Silva) and two, with the physical ability to beat him. So, at some point, when all the guys under Zuffa contract find a million reasons not to get in there with him, and I'm the only guy for him, not only will I get in there with him, I want in there with him. They're going to have to make that match happen."

i think what he needs to do is Get the title, than after that get a contract under the UFC and prove he is worth fighting silva, beating guys over at WEC wont get him a title shot in the UFC.

I think Sonnen should worry about Filho first. Even then I dont think he would be able to beat Anderson. Anderson would probably knock him out.

his style is like a mini Hendo, i honestly don't see what he would do different than Hendo from getting knocked out, plus he should definately worry about Filho b/c a focused Paulo Filho is nothing to look past

Why would he be looking past a guy that in their last fight almost broke his arm? He doesn't have anything that Silva hasn't seen, Silva would destroy him.

he's not even a top 15 fighter, silva would beat his ass, sonnen needs to focus on fihlo, if he wants to go back to the ufc let him prove himself. beat fihlo first

There is no way that he is going to fight A. Silva anytime soon, and even if he does, after seeing his last fight I can tell you all this. Sonnen would get KTFOed!!

If Sonnen beats paulo Filho Then His Stock Sky Rockets And then there gona have a Filho Sonnen 3 another big draw for Wec then imo he earns the rite to challenge a contender in the ufc if he wins that he should fight silva because it can be another big draw wec champ vs ufc champ can silva be the 1st man to unite the pride belt ufc belt and wec belt ... that being said he would get killed

Sonnen isnt going to fight Anderson Silva ever, he will just get knocked out. UFC is a set up from WEC competition. I dont think he could hang with some of the MW guys in UFC even though its a weak division. I dont like sonnen at all, and im hoping paulo breaks his arm the next time they fight and just gets beat down by Filho.

he wants to fight Anderson???!!?!??! he really has lost his mind, i say let him get destroyed it would be fun to watch, then they can give bersbing a shot after that and we can see his nose at a 90 degree angle, so much for mikey running from hammill now hes lookin at a possible worse beatdown if he cracks the top 5 or 10

Sonnens a tough dude, but he needs to take his head out of his own ass. I think hed get beat easily off anderson, and get beat pretty decisively off rich, nate, okami and almedia. Theres no way he deserves a shot at anderson, and if hes manages to get that fight by having a big mouth, hed get schooled. Sonnen is like school in july. No class.

Sonnen needs to keep working hard to get the WEC belt and maybe defend it a few times before he even suggests this fight imo.
I don't rate him as the best in the WEC MW division and i reckon 5+ of the UFC MWs would beat him convincingly.
