It looks that way. Not only was there a message of a "huge announcement" coming on his website, but The Fight Network is reporting that Sylvia appears to be headed for (financially) greener pastures:
Two-time UFC heavyweight champion Tim Sylvia could announce his decision to leave the Las Vegas-based promotion as early as Friday, according to a source close to the situation. Sylvia, who has one fight remaining on his current contract with the UFC, submitted to Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira in a bout for the interim heavyweight championship at UFC 81 in February.
Sylvia's departure could set the stage for a lucrative match with former Pride heavyweight champion Fedor Emelianenko later this year. Still widely regarded as the top pound-for-pound fighter in the world, Emelianenko's services are being sought by a number of potential suitors, including EliteXC. .

i like. more matches outside the UFC then in it for him.
Barnett Cro-cop Fedor Kharitonov
as opposed to
Werdum Gonzaga Kongo Herring
or of course he could have more rematches with MIr, Arlovski(who may not be with the ufc anymore), and Vera.
Who wouldnt want to see vera vs. sylvia 2! or Arlovski vs. Sylvia 4!?

Kongo would beat Sylvia? Go figure. Never would have guessed that.

If he announces that he's stupid! Isn't their something like 11 months left on his current contract an the UFC will just keep him in lingo until then. Not to mention his fights aren't exactly the most interesting to watch so a year away regardless of if he's difficult to beat or not he won't be able to demand the same amount of cash.
I hope its something like who his next is against or he might be starting up his own gym for 6'8" people and above!

I would cream my pants for this! Andrei would smash Tims face in in a rematch! Look at the fight again, AA dominated the first and second up to the point that kick was checked. Then he isn't as quick or aggressive but still lands all the power shots and still has the faster hands!
Yeah it was a boring match after the 2nd round but I'd still pay to see the 4th fight and i'd bet many others would too!

Id like to see sylvia vs Herring, or kongo. I think it would be a 3 round slugfest with the winner comming by decision.
But I think his news is that drinking all them grasshoppers and cosmo's turned him gay.

yeah, Blame it on Dana..... Dana wants exciting PPV, even if those fighters helped shape the UFC, at some point they will be past their prime and will be replaced...
Anyway, it's not like Tim was the most exciting fighter of the HW division.

Seriously, if Big Tim leaves you can't put the blame on Dana. His fights are BORING and he's probably asking for ridiculous money. Let some other sucker pay him too much $$$ for 15 minutes of hugging.

even with this said (Possibility of leaving), i'd still say the announcement will be that he is fighting Frank Mir, i just have a feeling that will be the announcement

i like tim and i think he is a great assett to the ufc, but it might be the right time for him to go. he has nothing more to accomplish in the ufc and he isnt going to get another title shot any time soon. i would totally respect it if he took the money and went elsewhere.

I personally dont enjoy watching Tim fight at all......If him and Arlovski were to fight again it would probably be the same as there last fight a five round jab competition, but that being said i would enjoy watching him and Mir fight again just so Mir can beat him again....
