Joe Stevenson (28-8) will look to get back in the 155-pound title hunt when he takes on Gleison Tibau (15-5) at UFC 86 on July 5 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
MMAmania.com learned that the bout was possible late last week and confirmed the match up earlier this morning.

Stevenson is just the all around better fighter. Dont think he will be able to get a sub though. Stevenson by late TKO or decision.

I have nothing against Joe Stevenson. However, I think most fans put too much stock into him. I do not classify him as an "elite" LW. I believe he's a good fighter and has a wealth of experience that can't hurt a bit, but I rank him somewhere between 15-20 in the division. In all honesty, I think someone such as Tyson Griffin, Frank Edgar, or even Kenny Florian deserved the title shot before Joe.
That being said, I also don't believe that Tibau is an "elite" LW. At least not right now. He is a huge LW and has phenomenal BJJ. IMO, he has more potential than Joe.
What you are saying is that the UFC is putting Tibau against Stevenson because they don't want Tibau around anymore. Putting him against Stevenson is a garunteed loss and will justify them booting him. I'm sorry my friend, but i respectfully disagree and have to say that Tibau is not an easy fight for anybody.
Not sure who i'm picking yet in this fight, but it's definatly not as easy for me as it is for you to make up my mind.

agreed
Tibau is a pretty difficult match-up for him, hes the biggest LW out there and his grappling is no joke. Tyson Griffin was afraid to grapple with him when they fought and thus made it a stand-up war. Tibau is probably going to be stronger than stevenson as well... something to think about.
Stevensons toughest opponent he beat was kurt pellegrino... and personally i thought joe lost that fight. This will now be Joe's toughest fight and im not too sure he can pull it off.

I agree this isnt anywhere near an easy match for Joe Daddy, but still im taking Joe daddy to use his boxing to out point Tibau for a decision, unless Tibau improved his stand up dramatically, i see Joe Using his wresteling to try and stand and just out box him, like Griffin did.

It seemes to be a replay if you will of Tibau vs Griffin....I dont think Joe has the hands for it though...I think Tibau might sub him from the bottom!

I see this being a good rebound fight for Stevenson. Although Tibau isn't any slouch. Should be a good fight and I hope it's on the main card. Stevenson 2nd round submission.
