When the Sandman meets the Assassin, chances are someone is going to sleep. And with James (The Sandman) Irvin and Houston (The Assassin) Alexander both looking to erase recent painful memories in the cage, the two UFC 205-pounders will be looking to prove a point in their mixed martial arts bout April 2 in suburban Denver.

Im taking Irvin via KO, IMO he has better striking, chin, and can hold his own in the clinch, and has a much better ground game. Alexander in my opinion has a suspect chin, and as long as irvin can wether the storm, i think irvin connects with a big right to end the night for houston.

That's how I see it going, this fight could definitely go either way...

Technically true as it is ruled officially as a loss, but I don't necessarily consider Irvin's loss to Silva legit as it was an injury that garnered Silva the win. Granted, Irvin was taken down and he could have been finished by submission or strikes, yet I would like to see a rematch. While the fight was short, Irvin did have a nice start as he threw a hard right that connected and sent Silva reeling back against the cage. From there Silva knew he wanted nothing to do with Irvin's stand up. In a rematch I would take Silva, but you always have to give Irvin a puncher's chance as he does throw bombs!

Chin = Equal, slight advantage for Alexander Overall Striking = Alexander Ground = Equal, slight advantage for Irvin Wrestling / Clinch = Alexander (think chokeslam on thiago)
irvin's going to sleep unless its a freak KO out of nowhere, irvin's striking is sloppy, alexander takes advantage in the 1st

Tough fight to pick seeing as both of these guys have knockout power. Anyone can get knocked out.

WOW, this is one of the worst analysis i've seen IMO, Alexander better chin really?? he was dropped by jardine from the first punch, and thiago landed like 3 on alexander to put him out, while Irvin has taken huge shots and seems unfaced,Striking to alexander?? Irvin has much better striking, houston just uses dirty boxing in the clinch.........and irvin wresteling is much better than houstons, alexander might have an advantage on the clinch, but not in the wresteling.

I agree that is just ridiculus... Irvins ground game is pretty sick and Houston has shown nothing on the ground so far.

So the question is, can Irvin take Houston down? We all know in our hearts that if the fight is standing there really are very few people out there who can withstand the onslaught of Houston Alexander. The guy is a friggin animal, I LOVE IT! I really think he is the most powerful striker in the LHW division. Not the most technical, or the best striker, but the most powerful.
I've seen Irvin bang, and he's a tough guy for sure, they all are at this level. But if he doesn't stay in the clinch or on the ground, I think it's going to be good-night.
This fight is exciting none the less. If Houston hasn't worked on his ground game, then he is a fool. I hope he has, because I really like his attitude inside and outside the ring. The guy was totally relaxed as Thiago Silva mounted him and bashed his head in. Totally relaxed. I like that .

I also strongly agree with juanez13's overall assement, but to say that, "Irvin's ground game is pretty sick." Is almost downright asinine. Yes, I am sure his overall ground game is better than Houston's, as he has submitted two fighters. However, the two fighters he submitted were virtually cans. It should also be noted that when Irvin does get put on his back he also does look like a fish out of water. Irvin does have good takedowns, they are very explosive. Most people have forgotten this, because he hasn't used them lately. I don't know if we'll see them in this fight, but it is a possibility.
