For the first time in the show’s history, starting with its seventh season, “The Ultimate Fighter” will debut on Spike TV with 32 competitors vying for a shot at a UFC contract. This time each competitor will have to fight to earn his spot on the show.

The first two episodes, airing April 2 and April 9, will include a total of 16 fights, either airing in their entirety or featuring extensive highlights. The 16 fighters who win will advance to The Ultimate Fighter house, while the 16 fighters who lose will go home.

“The new format will give us two incredibly intense episodes to launch the season and will weed out some of the guys who might not have the heart and desire that it takes to become a UFC fighter,” said UFC president Dana White about the new season

Great new idea by TUF. I'm looking forward to this season. Especially with Forrest and Rampage as coaches.

Other than that sounds good.

I think that is awesome the way they are playing this show!!!

Usually the beginning few shows are boring becuase the fighters are intimidated and lacking confidence and there sometimes isnt even a fight until episode #2. If they are starting right off with guys fighting a tourney style event or something -anything- like that, it will be exciting at the beginning of the season and the end as well, instead of previous seasons where the excitement didn't start popping until midway through the season.

props to the creators for this

I like this. It sends the message "come prepared, or you're out!".

Or In Danaspeak :"You better f**** come f***in' prepared or you're f***in' out of here."

Get ready to watch Mike Dolce swing for the fences and knock some dudes out while standing. If he is more well rounded than his IFL days he could make some noise on this show, despite his FOUR losses in a row. This guy clearly likes to fight people

You guys its going to be ridiculous watching 16 fights in full or highlights on the first 2 episodes

Know there will be some duff fighters but hopefully we get some good KO's or Subs and we wont suffer any boring fights cos they will edit them

Im loving this, if the guys are cool and funny and stuff, and most importantly the fights are good quality then with the coaches it would be the best tuf ever!

Now if they would just remove the alcohol from the house and NOT encourage the fighters to be jackasses on TV...

But that won't happen.

Now this is "reality TV" that I can get excitied for... that's a hell of a way to start the premier of a new season of anything...

Just to clarify, I have trouble describing how much I hate the idea that championships have to be put on hold for the sake of reality TV, so I'll just leave it al that... At least I get to watch more than just the last 15 minutes of the first couple episodes, which is pretty cool

This is such a great flippin' idea I feel it should be mandated for every reality TV show. You want to get on Big Brother, you have to fight. You want to be on Moment of Truth, kick someones ass. You want to have your dispute settled on Judge Judy, armbar your way there. You want on The Apprentice, you have to fight that scary looking black chick, Amaretto, or whatever her stoopid name is.
