All too often, being No. 2 in the world just doesn't cut it. Go ahead and ask John Kerry or the New England Patriots, two recent examples that second place is really just the first loser.

In MMA, however, where the No. 1 light heavyweight spot has been defiantly claimed by a howling, chained figure called Rampage, second best will have to do.

MMA debates can rage on for decades -- just ask an old timer: Gracie or Sakuraba? -- and so it only makes sense that with a clear No. 1, the discussion of No. 2 begins. For the fighters, this isn't a discussion of second best (they all think they're the best) as much as it is a discussion of who's in line for the next title shot. With Quinton Jackson the undeniable top 205 pounder in the world, let's take a look at the potential candidates, in no particular order, for No. 2.

I also say Manchita do to Shogun pulling out vs Chuck that would have decided who fought nest for the title but now I would say winner of Evans Chuck will fight for the title

1 Quinton Jackson
2 Keith Jardine
3 Forrest Griffin
4. Lyoto Machida
5. Chuck Liddell
6. Rashad Evans
7. Tito Ortiz
8. Thiago Silva
9. Mauricio Rua
10. Wanderlei Silva

Yes...Keith Jardine is number two. The only reason he isn't fighting Rampage for the belt is because Forrest is a more entertaining figure as the coach for TUF. I've got to think if Evans beats Liddell, he'd be top 3 (imagine that TUF haters...Griffin, Jardine and Evans) . I'm definitely looking forward to a big couple of months for the 205ers

You forgot to mention that lost to Houston Alexander. Thats why he is not fighting Rampage.

Blink,
I agree with your ranking with the exception of Thiago Silva. i would only change him to 6th and bump Evans and Ortiz down accordingly.

what kinda crack are you on to have TiTo even in the top 10 much less at number 7... TiTo hasn't beated ayone in a long time... He Lost vs Forrest ( regardless of the judges) Rashad beat him... Wandy would tool him... and Shogun could fight on 1 leg and beat TiTo... Tito is a washed up has been he won't ever see gold again outside Canville promotions

Your crazy dude! Liddell is going to smash Rashad. #2 in my opinion is probably Lyoto Machida. Followed by Liddell, Jardine, Forrest.
