Mauricio Rua is planning to undergo surgery Saturday, March 8th. He suffered an injury during the training at UFL Academy.

"I'm calm, I have to operate, there is no other way, I hope Chuck waits for me (laughs)"

Asked how he injured the knee, Rua responded, "I did shit, I was hurt helping a friend in the training, He was running and I held him by the waist and forced my knee"

Also, the former PRIDE Champion stated that he is surprised with his substitute, Rashad Evans, Despite Evans stature here in the US and his undefeated status in the octagon, the Brazilian fighter doesn't know who he is.

Rua is confident about his return to the octagon, "I'll be back likely in August."

It all depends on the severity, but I think he should be out until the end of the year card to have enough time to fully heal and enough time to get into fighting shape. Of course every athlete has different recovery periods, but 5 months til his next fight doesn't sound reasonable at all.

My guess is he'll never fully recover and will only fight another couple years.

He'll possibly beat Rampage. Just like all the other Pride strikers I see him not being the same kind of dominant fighter he was in the ring.

He will not finish fighters like he did in Pride without the head stomps and downed headkicks. I think he will be a decision fighter with no flashy kicks and a questionable sprawl. Many of his tools are not with him and with his injury, if it's chronic, he will be an A or B level fighter, but never Elite level again.

LOL how would you know how good fighters would be if there at 100%, are you claiming that his KO victories are all by stomps and soccor kicks? this is asinine

what you said is like saying former or current ring fighters arnt as good in the cage but yet 3 former ring fighters are UFC champs

Well, obviously he didn't wait long enough the first time, so at least that long and then some. 6 months minimum.

he still is a good strike and a good clinch and good JJ, so as long as he take his time with his knee he'll be fine with the no stomps and can always use elbows just ask forrest's face. hopefully this injury doesnt keep happening cause it will end his career which would sux for how young he is and talented he is.
