Don't consider a UFC fight between Fedor Emelianenko and Randy Couture dead just yet. With Couture embroiled in a nasty legal dispute with the UFC and Emelianenko tied to M-1 Global's MMA franchise, the heavyweight dream matchup has long seemed to be the world's best bout that would never happen. Now it could. Apy Echteld, one of Emelianenko's agents, confirmed what a source close to the situation previously told The Magazine: M-1 Global and Emelianenko will part ways some time in the next week, making the Russian a free agent. Divorce negotiations are ongoing right now, with a formal announcement likely for in the next few days. "Officially, yes, Fedor will be a free agent," Echteld says. Of course, the UFC would have to be willing to re-open negotiations with Emelianenko's management. Previous talks dragged on for almost a year before falling apart amid plenty of name-calling and finger-pointing from both sides. UFC president Dana White was vocal in pinning the blame on Emelianenko's team, saying he never once spoke or met with the fighter. Would the head of the UFC be willing to enter the Fedor fray again? "Absolutely, 100 percent, in a heartbeat," says White. "People think he's the best—I don't, not even close. But if it's somehow possible, I would make it happen." Reached on Thursday, Echteld was caught off-guard when told that White would be willing to revisit last year's stalemate. But he echoed the UFC's willingness to talk and vowed to speak with White as soon as possible. "We're open to a discussion," says Echteld. "If everybody is willing to put a little wine in the water, then we have something to work with. There is space for this to happen." A fight involving Emelianenko and Couture would also require considerable fence-mending between Couture and the UFC. Couture has cited the UFC's inability to sign Emelianenko as a key reason for his sudden retirement. And now the two sides are locked in a bitter, months-long battle about the duration and terms of Couture's UFC deal. Over the past month, the situation has seemed to only be deteriorating. That could change if Emelianenko becomes available. "I like Randy, I genuinely like to think he's a good guy," White says. "As much as we've gone back and forth on this, I would sign Fedor and do everything possible to get Randy in the octagon with him. I'd do anything, because a., it's a great fight and b., I think Randy would smash Fedor." Through his spokesman, Couture declined to comment. http://sports.espn.go.com/espnmag/story?id=3280383

I still doubt he will be in The UFC....I'd say we will see him in DREAM, he is a big star in Japan, and I'm sure Dream will spend quite a bit to get him, plus their contract will probably be a lot less strict than the contract UFC had offered him, and he will be able to do more things (EX- sambo)

This is assuming a. Fedor is signed by the UFC b. Randy comes back and c. There's the little problem with Nog holding the Interm title. Someone has to beat him and it is not a gimme.

A is the only problem, the rest will fall in place if fedor signs.
B. Randy will come back to fight fedor, the payday would be huge and fedor is one of the reasons he leaving the ufc.
C. It would be a gimme fight for fedor, and fedor alone.

hmmmm yeah... Nog being the interim champ is kind of an obstacle, also after all that trash talking of Randy, remember that he said Fedor was one of the reason..... some advice for the UFC: -y'all have nothing to lose giving Fedor a 1 fight contract (this gets rid of the Sambo situation) -Randy has 1 fight left right? DING! -make it Randy-Fedor and then kick both of their asses after making the biggest $$$ bag from PPV ever, and if you can find a place that holds 30,000 fans it'll be a sold out.
maybe?

I honestly don't see old Fedor signing with the UFC. He seems like a very proud man, and I don't know that he'll be happy to join the UFC with all that happend between him and Dana. I'd like to see him here, but I don't want to see him fight with elbows, he cuts to easily and I would hate to see him vs Randy end that way. I hope he signs with Dream and then we'll get to see all of their shows on HDNet because you know Cuban will be buttering them up for the Fedor Couture match that he will definetly have a hand in.

I don't know about him signing with the UFC but this is a bad sign for M-1 which hasn't really done anything yet. You have to wonder since they are parting ways does that mean he is parting ways with his head manager? His head manager is the VP of M-1. So all this seams a little odd if you ask me. Maybe they asked his manager to step down as VP and he got Fedor to follow. Maybe M-1's backers are starting to back out. BUt right now this is just all guesses.

Nog vs Randy then Fedor vs winner then loser of nog Randy vs Fedor. Fedor beats Nog I say 75% of the time and who knows vs Randy... I might give it to Fedor still, just due to all the Randy Nut hugging!!! If Fedor losses to Randy watch for him to go to Dream, as will Hendo most likely weather or not he losses in the UFC again.
