I trace the UFC heavyweight title back a little further, to the second Ken Shamrock-Royce Gracie fight...yeah that belt wasn't called the UFC heavyweight title, it was the "UFC super fight championship", but it was an open weight title, and after Shamrock won it, he lost to Severn who lost to Coleman, who was the first official UFC heavyweight champion.

i didn't include superfight champions because it does not transcend into the weight class system that we have set up today. i even make a note of it in the first post.

Your right on as of now hughes is the greatest champion ever. But he is on theouts and i see anderson Silva only getting better against the best that they can throw at him. He will be champion for a very long time and will be the best P4P fighter ever........i've been saying this for a long time
Unfortunately Silva is not gonna be around for long, he has already publicly stated he plans to retire within a year (there was an article in a british magazine called Fightsport about it.) In the magazine it said Silva told Brazilian sports network, Sport TV "I don't need to prove anything to anyone and within one year will put my gloves aside."
Will scan the article and post it here if you want.

Anderson still has 5 fights left on his contract, it looks to be a busy year for him.

I would still make a case for Gracie though. The guy came in when there was basically no rules and ran the show. He was terrifying and gave up about 50-100lbs in all his fights and fought 3 times a night. One fight I would have loved to have seen was UFC 1 final between Gracie and Gordeau if his hand had not been messed up, I really think Gordeau would have had the best chance early on of stopping him.
Gordeau the kickboxer vs. The BJJ guy? I dont think even if he was in perfect condition that he would have won.

Nice work. Bravo.
Sugar Rashad is going to be the greatest LHW ever and future GOAT. I'm willing to bet due to his upperbody movement, technical boxing, KO Power, and superior wrestling that he'll be having more title defenses than Ortiz or Liddell.
(Unless Shogun comes along and throws a monkey wrench in his plans)

I disagree with everyone. IMO, the most successful UFC champ should be determined by one thing & one thing only- ladies. So the question is... "Which champ's quality of women jumped up the highest while being champ?" I think the answer is obvious- The Maine-iac. Who knows what kind of lumberjack-looking women he was used to?
