I have a bad feeling that having a guy like Kimbo headline an event like this could set MMA back years in the eyes of the general public.

You took the words right off my keyboard. But I think it will also be the whole Elite XC promotion that gives MMA a bad name. Especially when they go out of their way to feed thier fighters cans and then bash other orgs that don't do that.

Yes, as a fan I'm midly excited to watch these fights one CBS, but if I could choose whether it stays or goes... bye bye. Like previous posters said, Kevin Ferguson is not the guy you want people seeing while watching MMA for the first time. You want a Royce Gracie type guy in there. A technical jujitsu guy to show people that a fight can be won without throwing a single strike. MMA needs to be presented as a legitimate sport and not two barbarians bashing eachother's face in. I just see this as being a bad raod for MMA and EliteXC in particular.

It's good to hear. However, "they" won't touch the UFC.
They can't put the quality cards together, they don't have the quality commentary staff...and they are only having 4 - 2 hour events.
Good to see for the fan....and no real worries for the UFC.

Most ridiculous statement i've read in a while. Royce Gracie happened almost 20 years ago, my friend. MMA has since evolved as a sport.

I'm so glad you said that! I was so worried about Dana White's pocketbook.

did you watch their last card? it was the most exciting card ive seen since TUF 6 finale. seriously, every fight was a finish, scott smith, kimbo, yveves (sp) edwards, james thompson getting a knee and a 5 punch combo. I agree with you that goldberg and ranullo are effing terrible but hopefully quadros can fix that just a little bit.

and now that the mma world is starting to settle after pride, they can afford to put some money and attract talent, considering how tito ortiz contract is up?, i mean he could get more visibility, more money, and fight easier opponents than in the ufc? i mean seriously, where do i sign?

Dude, if the UFC would put the same garbage out there, you would be throwing a fit! The TUF coming up is much better than what this show was. You have to be new to this with the wanting nothing but KO's. YOu can go watch a toughman show if that is what you want to see.

It was laughable to see all the comments how great of a card that EliteXC put out a few weeks ago. It was junk!

It really wasn't that good the main event was crap, Tank Abbott is aging and even a few years ago when he faced some BJJ guys like Mir he lost. If Kimbo got put in a ring against anyone that has a decent ground game he'd get dimolished. Brock Lesnar would destroy Kimbo or Tank and he's not even that good in the UFC.

Dana will prolly give one of his typical sour grapes comments. Like "CBS made a crap offer & that's exactly what they got." or something along those lines. He'll do his best to insult CBS, Elite, Shaw & the viewers if he stays true to his pattern.

I'm pleased about this, personally...will have old Pride reruns, WEC, TUF & UFC and now Elite on my cable line up. More MMA is good!!

Thug Kimbo (I dont care if he is a nice guy or not…image he portrays) as the face of all mma? Lawmakers and mma bashers are giggling right this instance. The fans alone that Kimbo is marketed to is right there along with the trash down here in Miami on the streets. The behavior of the crowd at his fight with Tank was atrocious! Yes this is a major step in mainstreaming the sport, but what implications will this have in the long run with Kimbo as the face? A street thug, internet fighter, a former porno bouncer, someone that has little skills outside of slugging. These will be repeated and repeated all across the World in homes where little Johnie will be watching with his parents for the 1st time and we think his parents are going to take this sport seriously?

i think everyone needs to stop crying, elitexc has a nice stable of fighters and they've put on very decent shows thus far. good for pro-elite (who is known to co-promote events with a lot of different orgs) and good for US!, THE FANS!
