this would be a major coup for eliteXC if they beat the UFC onto network television.

I am praying to everything religious that UFC man's up and offers CBS a better deal and gets EliteXC out of there.

They are pretty much horrible all together. Usually make bad matches and definitely have horrible production. They have some world class fighters but thats it. UFC has a lot of world class fighters, much better production and is just way better overall.

Gary Shaw got into MMA to destory MMA so he can pave the way for boxing again. Thats what I'm thinking, I mean why else would you promote MMA as a street fight with street fighters? He can't be that dumb to know that the mainstream media is gonna tear his production to pieces with his shoddy promotional angles.

Hmm so man oppourtunities here,

The UFC really missed the boat on this one. While arguing over creative rights they screwed themselves on deals with both CBS and HBO.

Elite XC didn't try to maintain as much control. They are dealing with a major television network. Smart business practises on Elite XC's part once again gains them an advantage over the UFC.

This could also be interesting to see if they begin to air the female MMA matches considering they do have some serious female fighter on their roster (ie. Gina Carano)

I don't see it garnering HUGE primetime ratings but it is good for us serious MMA fans.

I wouldn't be surprised to see the UFC attempt to strike a deal with ESPN eventually.

Good for EliteXC but bad for MMA. A second rate promotion is going to show the world everything that's wrong with MMA while the UFC continues to provide greatness on SPIKE.

I dont see this happening because ESPN is kind of like the citadel of traditional sports. I dont see them wanting to legitimize MMA because they still see it as "savagery". The PTI guys are the prime example of this. I think the UFC has a better chance of getting on one of the big networks than on ESPN.

Well if EliteXC has indeed signed with CBS, I would expect that it will be CBS in charge of the production. This was the main sticking point with the UFC, the UFC wanted their own announcers and production team and would not bend on that issue. If this does air in prime time on CBS I would expect a very different experience than the show we just watched on Showtime (or up here in Canada on The Fight Network). Much more polished and with a much larger budget for production values.

Too bad it wasn't the UFC landing the deal, but it is great for MMA, landing a major Network for primetime broadcasts is truely bringing this sport even more into the mainstream, and will also show many of the casual fans that there is more to the sport than just the UFC.

the way i look at it, the more mma on tv the better. of course it's not the ufc, but i really enjoy watching the wec so i am sure i will enjoy elitexc. also i don't think it makes much of a difference that the ufc is not on a major network. anyone with cable gets spike, so who cares if its not nbc, cbs, fox, or abc. broader audience, schmoader schnaudience. :)

BUT...ESPN does recognize MMA now. If it was such "savagery" they wouldn't have an MMA section on their website.

I'm not saying it's going to happen anytime soon, but I'd be willing to bet that it'll happen eventually. The more popularity it gains, the more inclined ESPN will be to change it's ways.

As for the PTI guys being a prime example...that's 2 guys. Colin Cowherd hates hockey and rags on it but that doesn't keep ESPN from covering it.

This is great news if you are an MMA fan

This is bad news if you're a UFC nut hugger (apparently half of the people who posted in this thread)

This is really bad news if your last name is Fertitta
