One guy I know thought it was the same thing as WWE, but not as good. We had an argument about it. His argument was because Ken Shamrock switched between the two they must be the same. He watched show one and now he's hooked.

Dude, props for that one. I laughed so hard when I read that.

Some dude watching UFC next to me at a bar (referring to Brock)- "What is that?! A dick on his chest?!"

Actually I thought it was pretty funny.....

The dumbest thing i've ever heard is anything said by Mike Goldberg, and when Rogan says something so unproffessional, its acually kinda funny, i forget what fight, but its on my DVD, he says ,"Oww, right in the balls!"

Here's one of Rogan's comments last night (paraphrased because I cannot remember it exactly)

-I don't believe in stand-ups. If a guy can do it, they should be able to lay on the other guy the whole 5 mins.-

I'm sorry, I'm all for ground work, but this comment just blew me away. I think the rules are in place that make the UFC a fair playing field for grapplers and strikers. This comment by Rogan was just asinine

was he being sarcastic

anyway the stupist think i have ever heard about MMA is when my sociology teacher yelled at me for being ethnocentric while viewing the Yanomamo. the Yanomamo were a tribe that existed in the 1950's that were completely primitive and void of any advancement. they were a very violent people and had many rituals where they beat each other. for example, the most benign form of violence they have is when the take turns beating each other with clubs over the head to settle domestic disputes. when i commented on how barbaric that was, my teacher said, "aren't you a fan of ultimate fighting? how can you say that is barbaric when you watch ultimate fighting? how do you think the world views America with ultimate fighting?"

i then explained how it is called MMA and that it is a sport with rules and takes highly tuned athletes to do. unlike the Yanomamo who beat each other to solve problems and actually wind up killing each other quite often, MMA has no deaths (besides that one in Texas from a small promotion) and is safe. i explained how every modern culture has a form of "violent" martial art that is a form of entertainment and competition. i used san shao in China, sambo in Russia, muay thai in Thailand, jiujitsu in Brazil and judo in Japan. i said that MMA is popular world wide and is not a product of America and that MMA is not useless violence that kills people but that it is a sport that requires years of training and dedication.

I'll have to watch it again, but I don't think so. If he was, it was a poor attempt.

Rogan was not being sarcastic; if a man can get you down, he should have the opportunity to work with it more so than fighters are generally given.

I personally have always wanted 5 4 minute rounds and no referee stand up (unless it's a stalemate and no one has better position) and I think Rogan feels the same way.

I realize it is more boring to the fans, but if someone can impose their gameplan on you, then you are not good enough to counteract it. There is always K1 for someone who can't avoid take downs.

I think you missed the point of what Rogan said. He basically said he's ok with a guy holding another guy down for 5 min. This is despite working anything. HE said "holding" a guy down, not holding and working EFFECTIVE GnP or trying for subs. I am happy to see 4 mins of ground work if it's like the Diaz-Diego fight, but I don't want to see pinning. To me holding a guy down on the canvas for 5 min is not MMA. It is either judo, BJJ or wrestling.

To me if a guy is even mounted and he throws 10 to 20 strikes and the guy on the bottom successfully evades or blocks them, you are pretty much at a stalemate and something should be done. I'm not saying that situation happens a lot, but there are a lot of instances where the neither person is doing much.

The fact that the person on top has the choice to stand up and force the bottom guy to stand up is a big enough advantage/reward reward for being in the top position.

I also want to point out that due to the way MMA fights are being scored, it is not fair to score someone the round because they were able to take someone down (or sometimes not even that) and hold them down for 5 mins. Again, this is MMA not judo or wrestling. It's no more/less frustrating than when two guys refuse to engage in the stand up.

i love it when people have no idea about the sport except for maybe the last year or two of the ufc and they only know that b/c of TUFF. i can't stand when people start talking shit about all the pride fighters that would get their asses kicked in the ufc. granted a lot of em haven't done too well for one reason or another (cro cop, dan henderson) but shit... they just don't seem to be fighting like they did over in pride. and come on... everybody shit on rampage till he beat chucks ass now they're all over him. i can't stand idiots who don't involve themself in the sport a little more but talk mad shit about it anyway. makes me wanna punch stomache's and kick shins.

i don't agree that there should be 5 4 minute rounds of ground fighting... if you want that then watch ju jitzu. if you want 5 rounds of stand up then watch the WCL. MMA is all about gameplans that have to change with the opponent. that's what makes it the best sport in the world. it's a clash of styles and everything takes a well worked game plan to move past the variables. you have to appreciate the sport for that.

joe rogan's awesome but i think he really does say stuff without thinking. poor fella.
