Mauricio "Shogun" Rua (Pictures) started 2008 in a new home.
The fighter left Chute Boxe and, along with three former Chute Boxe teammates, created the Universidade da Luta. With the structure of his new team almost set, Rua spoke with Sherdog.com about his plans for the year ahead, which includes a showdown against former UFC light heavyweight champion Chuck Liddell (Pictures).
Gleidson Venga: What did you think about Chuck Liddell (Pictures) as your next opponent?
Mauricio Rua: I think that was a great choice. Liddell is a great fighter and it's a good fight for me because he is a very famous guy in America. Liddell is a tough guy, hard to defeat, but I think that there are no easy fights in my weight division. I'll go straight up over him and I'll give a great show to my fans.

Ok first off Shogun is my favorite fighters. This is a bad matchup for him. Chuck will not let him take him to the gorund and like we saw in the Wanderlei fight he will rbabit punch if you try to clinch with him. Shogun is going to be stuck have a kickboxing match with Chuck and I think hes at a disadvantage. Sure he can pull the Jardine and try and chop Chuck down but it will be tough. What made Shogun so dangerous in Pride was the fact that in a scramble he would kick your face in and stop the fight. He was the best ever at stomps and soccer kicks and that part of his game is gone. His elbows looke dgreat against Griffin though so I will never count out Shogun. This all being said I hope he finds a way to put Chuck down all my freinds who never watched pride think I'm an asshole because I hyped this guy up so much.

bad match-up for Shogun but if he trains hard and pushes the pace like his usual energizer bunny-esque ways, he has a good chance of winning.

I highly doubt Shogun will be in M-1 within a year based solely on the fact that his current UFC contract probably doesnt expire until way past that.
Also, I just dont see Shogun winning this fight. First things first, he better start working that cardio hardcore. He was bad out of shape in his last fight. If he comes in in shape he has a chance, but even then I still think Chuck has knocked out too many people who were coming at him.

shogun and lidell are 2 of my fav fighters to watch. I think chuck is a bad match up for shogun. No way will shogun be able to take chuck down and chuck will outstrike him.
chuck will fight page again ( no looping lunging body shots)and show all the rampage nuthuggers why hes boss.
