World Victory Road is set to announce the signing of Takanori Gomi, a source has confirmed to Sherdog.com.
Gomi, 29, was one of MMA's most prized free agents following the Zuffa buyout of the PRIDE Fighting Championships last year. Gomi has been courted by several promoters in recent months, including K-1 and HERO'S parent company Fight Entertainment Group, as well as UFC and WEC company Zuffa.
While the source could not confirm the length of Gomi's deal with WVR, the deal will see Gomi debut for the promotion on their March 5 Sengoku card at Yoyogi National Gymnasium No. 1. The Japanese standout will earn approximately $190,000 USD per bout.

besides, Penn would destroy him again, and then Sherk would follow that up with another beating. He decided to go somewhere, where he can be champ.

Yeah well it was kinda obvious anyway wasnt it? He is such a big star in Japan and would always be more benefitial to an org over there than the UFC
Do you think we should start phasing out some of the jap 155'ers in the rankings and including guys like BJ/Sherk/Florian/Huerta?

not a real shock to me either, but i dont see myself dropping him from my top 10, to me hes still one of the best LWs in the world and im not going to penalize him for wanting to fight close to home where he already is immensly popular.

unless they somehow fight top notch people there, then yes, and i have already begun
most of the japanese fighters are held in too high of regard anyway

Huh? Like who? I think, as a whole, Japanese fighters are often overlooked.

Have you ever seen a Gomi fight? Not physical enough....you don't know what your talking about. Kid Yamamoto, Sakuraba, Gomi, Tamura, Inoue, Hioki, Ishida, Mach Sakurai, Okami, Sudo, Nakamura. Yeah your right no good Japanese guys, and theres definetly no top 5's in the ones I listed. Watch another org besides the UFC. Kid Yamamoto is acctually on top of a ton of peoples top p4p fighters, and would probably beat most 155's and all 145's in the world.

Gomi is a great fighter, IMO Top 10 LW in the world. but his performance against Diaz made me question his ability. k Diaz is a pothead, but it doesnt give him an advantage as a fighter, but it is still an ILLEGAL substance.

I'm not shocked he signed with japan based company but I'm shocked it wasn't K-1 I thought for sure he would go to K-1.

often overlooked by the common US fans, but hardcore fans seem to think that if an overrated japanese fighter beats another overrated japanese fighter, they are all of a sudden the greatest (Gomi/Paper Champ). Flashy finishes over mostly average fighters pad his record, but i still dont see him at top five. In the ufc he would be at the top tier, but i wouldnt be surprised if he never made it to a title shot
I believe that at each weight class there are 3 more people from the US alone that are better than the best japanese fighter at that weight class. (with the exception of Kid Yamamoto and maybe Okami)
I have absolutely nothing against japanese fighters at all, but i think that people sometimes confuse flashy moves over average fighters with top level skill.

I cant believe you forgot AOKI!
I do agree on the sentiment that he'll be facing tougher competition outside the ufc.
Besides Penn, Sherk and maybe Edgar the UFC lw's dont really compare.
