Undefeated Shane Carwin (8-0 MMA, 0-0 UFC), a three-time NCAA Division II All-American and national champ in wrestling and two-time All-American in football, has signed a multi-fight deal with the UFC, reports the good folks at fiveouncesofpain.com. The signing was confirmed with Carwin himself.

Not only does the deal bring some new talent to the heavyweight division (which, MMAjunkie.com believes, desperately needs it), but it also brings a veteran presence. Carwin debuted professionally in October 2005 and has fought for some of the country’s top regional promotions, including Art of War and the WEC. And quite simply, he’s dominated the competition.

Carwin, who fights out of Colorado, trains with T’s K.O. Fight Club and High Altitude Martial Arts, where he’s a training partner of UFC middleweight Nate Marquardt.

Of Carwin’s eight pro bouts, all eight were first-round stoppages (three by knockout and five via submission). The average time of each fight? Just 72 seconds.

Found a high light of him. It is a year and a half old though. He is big, think Coleman and Randleman. He is able to slam other HW's. Interested to see what he can do.

I just hope they dont throw him in too quickly, he has an impressive record and is a finisher for sure..but he hasnt fought that great of comp yet..

I hope they dont send him straight in against a Kongo or Sylvia...if they expect big things rom this dude..build him up for a fight or 2.

He's listed at 285 on Sherdog. The HW limit in the UFC is 265. It's rare that a HW actually has to cut weight, but it shouldn't be a problem for him. I'm excited to see what he can do. I'd say that this is just as big (if not bigger) than the signing of Brock Lesnar.

Coming from wrestling, I'm sure he's no stranger to cutting. I doubt the UFC would sign him unless he told them he could make 265. And fightfinder ht/wt stats are loaded with errors.

I hope this guy brings it. The HW div needs some more talent. Thanks for finding the HL roadking

Hard for me to see him as a "vet" with only 8 fights to his name regardless of what year he started fighting but Id love to see them beef up the division. Good luck to him.

He should fight Lesner to see who the biggest meat head is. Once the drugs and the wrestling cancel each other out it will be like rock em sock em robots.

Wow. Nice first post.

Nice fighter bashing too. Careful man.

Just by watching the HL, it doesn't look like he has any stand-up whatsoever, but he could potentially be a contender...

I agree, I hope they don't throw him to the wolves early, it would be a total waste of time because he's not ready to contend...yet.

Lets hope he has a gas tank. He hasnt fought the toughest of competition so he might have to LnP to win some fights, especially against more athletic HW's in the UFC.

i have seen carwin fight a couple times, and he is a beast. i agree to the gas tank comment as he will ned some conditioning to go round for round in the ufc. Lets see if he can get past the jitters.

yea he will defenately have to have a gas tank, and develop some good stand up, becuase all that talk about beating very opponent in the first wont happen in the UFC, the guys in the ufc are too well rounded, and more prepared than any other fighters in other orgs, becuase its the big leagues now and there is no easy path to title contention

Edit: (exception of course fabricio werdum, and possibly brock lesnar)

That's pretty cool he'll add some depth to the HW division if it all works out.

i think carwin should worry about his upcoming fight with antonio silva, hard to pick against antonio in that fight but a probably going to be a good fight from what ive seen from both fighters
