In a recent blog entry, UFC middleweight Jason MacDonald (19-9 MMA, 3-2 UFC) stated that he would be fighting on the UFC 84 card in Montreal. We now apparently know his opponent: Joe Doerksen (39-11 MMA, 1-5 UFC).
The news comes from Stephan Patry, president of the Canadian-based TKO organization, who was quoted by the French-Canadian sports site, RDS.ca. (MacDonald and Doerksen both previously fought for the organizations.)
Although the MacDonald-Doerksen fight would feature two of Canada’s top middleweight fighters, it’s not known if the bout will be on the night’s televised main card. The event — the first ever to take place in Canada — is quickly filling up with top-tier talent. In addition to St. Pierre vs. Serra, the event is also slated to feature Thiago Alves vs. Karo Parisyan, as well as the return of Mauricio “Shogun” Rua.

This should be some what of a good fight, both of them need to win. Doerksen has fought some big names in MMA, but his last showing has far from a fair appearence.

this could be interesting, both guys are excellent on the ground and are seasoned vets. i gotta say macdonald is the more talented fighter and he takes it by decision.

This fight doesn't do much for me. I think it's only taking place since both are Canadian. Hopefully the Athlete can get back on track with a submission.

Wow, not a good fight talent wise, but I guess it's interesting since it will be close. Joe was beating Herman until he got decked with that huge punch. Macdonald can't beat anybody who's better then decent besides Herman but I think that was because Herman took him lightly. Basically if you can outstrike Joe, you should beat him with no problem. If you can neutralize Jason's BJJ, then you have that fight won. So it's going to come down to if Jason can outstrike Joe or if Joe can beat Jason on the ground and pick him apart on the feet.
I got Jason by Unanimous Decision because I don't think either have KO power and I don't think they are going to submit each other. It should be interesting but I doubt it's anything great. It's the fight to stay in the UFC.

Jason MacDonald has an absolute ton of talent and athleticism. Im always suprised at how good he is when i see him fight. I just dont see him submitting a guy as good as Doerksen though so im going to call a third round KO for MacDonald.

I'm almost positive that this will go to decision...it's still really cool that they take the two Canadians and put them on the Motreal card....way to market an event!

I'm really looking forward to this fight. I hope they spend most of their time on the ground, should be a nice technical ground fight.
