i appreciate most of the responses (except a few one statement ones with no back up ) and i knew i would get a lot of heat. i am not saying that BJ Penn is a bad fighter at all, in fact i think he is in the top 2 or 3 LW in the world. it is just that i feel that joe's style is well suited to defeat BJ's because it is similar to matt hughes'. i give BJ 100% credit for going the distance with GSP and he was winning the first round and maybe the second but i was just using that as an example of how he gasses. i believe that BJ will be winning the first 2 or maybe even 3 rounds but he won't be able to catch joe daddy in anything too serious so it will go to the later rounds. there i think joe has a chance to either eek out a decision or GnP BJ in the 5th round. now i can be 100% wrong because my whole theory rests on the fact that BJ will gas. if he does not, then i think he will win, but right now i feel that he will and it will give joe daddy the opportunity to win the belt.
and for the heat i am getting about saying that joe daddy has better JJ than hughes i can explain. i am not basing my opinion on the guillotines he has gotten recently but rather the guard passes, top control, moving his hips, defending submissions...i don't know it just seems to me he has developed a formidable ground game...now i am definitely not saying he has better JJ than BJ but he has good enough JJ not to get caught in something stupid. i am giving joe daddy a 55 to 45 chance of winning and again i can be completely wrong and have to eat my words but i just have a feeling on this one.

I can very easily see Daddy taking this one. He is no doubt stronger than BJ, and he's had a lot more fights as well. His jujistsu isn't as good as Penn's, but its not bad either. I'm picking BJ, but I wouldn't be surprised to see Stevenson pull off the upset. I've got Per losing this one.

if bj comes to the cage with the same drive as he did back in the old days he is going to demolish joe. But if he comes in looking like he is only good for two rounds like his last couple fights he is going to be in trouble.

So you think that Penn will get tired... man, he is training to be 155 pounds... he is prob 175-180 normaly... he trains hard to cut weight, and trains hard to win fights... especially 5 5 minute rounds... i say BJ Penn 3rd Submission...

I can't see Stevenson hanging with the top level welterweights like Penn has done. Therefore, I have to go with Penn. Also, I think he is sick of failing to get the LW title. He will be more focused than ever before.

i dont see any basis for the claim that bj wasn't injured that round he lost to hughes other than pure (misguided) speculation. bj was absolutely in control of that fight until he got hurt, which coincidentally enough, is the only round he has ever lost to matt hughes. consider also that the 4 previous fights bj fought in lasted to and through the third round, all of which he made through to the end.
if you consider stevenson to be a fighter on par with hughes/gsp/renzo/machida (the last 4 guys bjs lost to) then i guess its safe to bet on joe daddy. i personally dont think he is even close to the caliber of these fighters (joe fought machida at LHW! for ***** sake). bj has an edge on joe in every aspect of the fight. it will be a good fight and joe may catch an insane break, but relying on bj to gas or praying for a miracle isnt enough to make a safe guess.

I agree with both fights. It's why I have 300 on Joe and 200 on Per. I also have 200 on James Lee since Sakara is very overrated.
Sam Stout has no ground game. As long as Per can keep up on the feet until it hits the ground. It's all him. Sam has no ground game which is why he needs to go to K-1. Per is going to submit him. BJ has a very suspect gas tank and Joe has been bringing in some very good BJJ guys to help not getting submitted. I think he will stop it in the 3rd.
Overall, THANK YOU MMAPLAYGROUND! This is a very good and easy card to get ahead in the wagering. 3 solid fights to bet on. Very easy money. Sort of like the UFC 77 and 78 cards!!!

I'm definitely feeling Per (Pronounced like par for all the other non Swedes here) by Rear Naked Choke or Kimura. Joe Daddy I think Loses though, either by a sub in the second round if he wants to go to the ground consistently, or a Decision if Joe decides to strike. Joe can win, especially if BJ comes in having trained poorly or with any injuries, but I'm a BJ fan and just see him taking this.

maybe the 2nd pulver fight wasnt the greatest but he was dominating hughes again until an injury, and the GSP/Penn fight is a candidate for best fight in the UFC ever, explain how thats lookin good for 2 rounds, GSP and Hughes are great fighters who overcame BJ's ju jitsu and striking skills, hughes is better than sherk and people say sherk with demolish BJ...yeah ok some logic there

i agree bj gassed in the hughes fight he put everything he had on the triangle choke at the end of the 2nd round. he was done after that but he was winning up to that point. the gsp fight bj dominated the first round and gsp narrowly won the last 2. gsp looked like he lost if damage counts for anything. i agree that bj gassed in this fight as well or he would have won.he is fighting stevenson at 155lbs and this is 2 major differences. 1st: stevenson isnt hughes or gsp he is a level below in my opinion. 2nd: bj should be in better shape because he dropped weight and all that baby fat no ww should be carrying around. i think bj has too much talent on the ground and way better hands so he should win this one impressively. that being said just because of bjs history the longer it goes the better stevensons chances

Well I will say this, Joe is no Matt Hughes. He isn't even on the same level as Matt. The reason Matt beat BJ the 2nd time wasn't because BJ gassed, it was because BJ got injured in the 2nd round. Just to point this out the first time BJ fought Matt Hughes he beat him. But your title says it all.
DUDE.....Did you see Matt Hughes' last couple of fights?? HE IS A HAS BEEN!! He even admitted it! Stating that he can NOT compete with thes MORE TALENTED YOUNGER FIGHTERS!!!!! LOL. Quit your NUT-HUGGING!

Matt Hughes may not be in his prime but he is certainly not a has-been. He is still one of the best welterweights in the UFC today.
I would agree that Stevenson has a very real chance of winning this fight if he had a chin similar to Penn's. I would doubt Stevenson will get submitted unless he is knocked around a bit first on the feet, which is how I predict this fight going down. But a clear-headed Stevenson should not be submitted even by Penn. That being said, Stevenson does not have such a chin, and will get TKO'd on the feet or dazed enough to get caught in a submission.

Joes best chance of winning is in the championship rounds (4 and 5). But i think BJ will come out strong. have to sit through a guillotine attempt or two before he catches joe in something. My heart says joe my head says BJ im goin BJ but im rooting for joe, it is an excellent oppurtunity for him to prove himself.
