It seems to be a current trend that elite fighters struggle in their octagon debuts...(rampage, cro cop, shogun, and soko, to name a few), have all looked rough their first UFC fight...... But all the props in the world to Lyoto... He is more deserving of a shot than Forrest IMO.... but he'll get his chance eventually...
Off topic, but CroCop and Rampage did not struggle in their debuts. They dominated.

Machida did a very good job !!
But we also have to understand that Soko was overated and by Far. almost like Houston Alexander
My thoughts exactly.
Another great fighter that looks like he may be the best in the world until you get him on the ground and he just gets owned.
Maybe they should match these guys up.

I always thought Machida was a great fighter but WOW!!!!... he dominated Soko. Soko was doing pretty good at stand-up but once he got hit he would back away.... then when they went to the ground he just got man-handled. Machida should be considered a contender now....... Jardine vs. Machida sounds about right.
I was laughing when in the interveiw Joe Rogan Asked him if he considers himself a contender now... and he said something like "I've taken out the Alaskan Assassin and the African Assassin how many more assassins does the UFC have?"

Machida impressed the hell out of me too and he's definitely going to be a forced to be reckoned with and a Belt contender. Watch how he avoids a strike from Soko, throws and lands a punch himself... and sweeps Soko leg for the takedown all at the same time. Very impressive stuff.

if there were any questions about how good he is (and i wasnt sold), there shouldnt be any now. machida outclassed a very dangerous fighter. if it wasnt for the clinic that gsp put on machida may have turned in the most impressive performance. this guy has cracked the top 5 imo and he should be treated like it with a big fight in the future.
i agree that machida needs a big fight and he deserves one he looks to be 1 or 2 more wins away from a title shot. i also agree that gsp put on a clinic but chuck deserves alot of credit because he won the fight of the night that was a war

machida did well but soko was holding his own on the feet. but the gorund was all machida.
and to everyone comparing soko and houston. soko is way better and trains with team quest. maybe thats who they should fight next. that would be awesome.
and how about soko's entrance .literally a minute before it my buddy says that he looks like predateor then he came it in the mask. he shoulda laser beamed machida for the win.

Awesome, give machida his title shot, he deserves it.
Top 6 in the lhw now should be ... ( 1 = top )
Rampage= champ
Machida thiago silva Forrest keith jardine chuck liddell rashad evans
Something like that, but i bet chuck will rematch jackson with 1 in 3 wins before the likes of machida who has a perfect 4-0 in the ufc, forrest who has won 2 out of his last 3 and jardine who just beat chuck !!! The ufc championship title contendership rankings are messed up !!!
Question you guys ... ?? When machida got up after finishing the fight, he had blood around his mouth, was that his or soko's from the position his head was in executing the choke ??

I'm still not set on Machida. He did impress but this was his biggest win by far in the UFC. BJ and Franklin wins were a long time ago and they are best below his weight class. A young Experienced Stephan Bonnar and a not yet battle tested Soko are his biggest LHW wins.
He has the Winky Wright style that makes good fighters look bad but I just still can't say he's a threat to Rampage since he hasn't beaten really anybody. I think he could beat most. I know he could beat Liddel, Wandy and Jardine. I'm just not sure if he could beat Forrest or Rampage.
As for title shots go? Are you serious? People are actually saying he deserves a title shot when people like Jardine, and Forrest haven't got theres yet? He's a very good fighter. But I think he needs one more test before I see him being a huge threat. I'm calling Thiago vs Machida! Both can stand and fight on the ground!!! Or Rashad would also be a good test because both don't really have big wins on there back.
Good win though, not taking anything from his win. he looked really good and actually finished. I'm glad I saw that WEC fight of Soko last week and I got to change my pick!!! He's a good fighter. But I'm still just a little skeptical...

i wasn't impressed at all with soku i was very disappointed but not at all surprised with machida winning his 4th of the year. i really think his next fight should be for a number on contender status and with silva losing as well soku seems to me all these pride guys are losing, i think he needs to face jardine next, for number one contender i don't think machida will fight again untill june or beyond, jardine might fight before that but winner or griffith vs rampage facing winner or jardine vs machida, i think at the end of the year in dec in might just be rampage vs the dragon
