Rich Franklin had to pull out of a UFC 82 fight with Travis Lutter and will be sidelined until approximately June because of a torn meniscus he suffered in his right knee.

Ouch, rough blow to rich. At least he's not trying to fight and train with something that serious, knee's are tricky things.

These things are fixable but it definitely takes time. He won't be able to walk up a flight of stairs for a while.

Can't wait for his return in June.

Ouch indeed. That'll be a bit of a hit a the gate too, Ace would've helped draw more fans to the event as it was another hometown fight.

Demian Maia should replace Franklin to face Lutter. If you want to see two BJJ specialists roll on the ground in an excellent fight, you will support this fight as well.

i enjoy watching Ace fight, but honestly....wtf can he do once he gets back. He could win 5 straight fights against the best in the division, but that doesn't make him worthy of fighting for the championship AGAIN. Until someone, HENDO!!!!, knocks Spider off i dont see much of a path for Ace to work on.

Theres a good chance Hendo could win, and I think Rich would have gotten a shot after beating Lutter.

Franklin should have a pretty quick recovery time. I have had my meniscus repaired and the surgeons told me to start putting weight on it the next day with crutches and I was walking normal 2 weeks later. I was told to wait 6 weeks before doing anything strenious though. I'm sure for a proffesional fighter the recovery time will be a little longer because of the stress they put on their bodies, but it shouldn't keep him away from the gym for more then two months. I hope he comes back strong in the second half of '08.

Evan Tanner would be a good replacement opponent for Lutter.

June is a really long time to be out with a torn meniscus, I tore mine, had it removed and i was 100% within a month. I guess he doesn't want to take any chances though. It's a simple surgery with very little recovery time.
