UFC heavyweight Justin McCully has been offered a bout with Frenchman Cheick Kongo at UFC 81 “Breaking Point” on Saturday, Feb. 2 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, The Fight Network has confirmed with McCully’s camp. Currently overseas on a goodwill United Service Organizations tour in Iraq with fellow Team Punishment member Tito Ortiz, the 31-year-old has neither accepted nor turned down the bout, though his answer is expected Wednesday. If he accepts, McCully (8-3-2) would have six weeks to train for the contendership bout.

McCully earned a unanimous decision over Antoni Hardonk (4-3) at UFC Fight night 10 on April 5 in Las Vegas. Kongo (10-3-1) is riding high after a key victory over Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic (22-6-2) at UFC 75 this past September in London.

You guys can't count Justin out, he does great against Strikers, he beat Antoni Hardonk who is a better striker than Cheick Kongo and Kongo is not as good on the ground as Antoni, he is actually a brown belt under Renzo Gracie, so I would actually pick Justin for the upset.

The sad thing I've liked Kongo before he fought Cro Cop ( though never though he would beat him.....due to low blows and Cro Cops rib.) The thing with this fight is i don't see Cheick Winning as he would be taken down and held there. McCully has by no means good take downs but Kongo has even worse take down D.

Then we would hear " McCully beat Kongo who beat Cro Cop Cro Cop sucks!!! blah blah blah"

Lose Lose for Kongo also. Beats Justin who cares he was supposed to. Loses to him throws he out of title picture forever.

Justin's game plan should be to put Kongo on his back for 15 min .
Kongo is not so dangerous on ground and he really don't have the skill to catch Justin with a sub.

The Crocop fight was really not an indication of the quality of Kongo consitering that they were both strikers only and kongo was really not having to be worry by a takedown attempt by Crocop.

hard to pick for sure but it is really not a one way fight for Kongo like some peoples are believing.

you beat cro cop you get this?? my only guess is if he wins he will get a title shot next the ufc can't afford another shogun or cro cop incident for a title shot then lose

Not a good fight to put Kongo at, but I guess the UFC needs to see if he's improved his ground game any before considering him for a title shot. I really hope Kongo can just work on a really good sprawl.
Justin McCully could very well Unanimously defeat Cheick, but Kongo should really try to throw some low kicks to weaken McCully's legs, so when Justin tries to take him down Kongo can just stuff his takedown, get in a clinch and throw some knees etc....

Could go either way but im making my pick assuming Cheick comes in with a much improved sprawl.
Kongo by Decision.

God DAMNIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WTF is wrong with Joe Silva? seriously sometimes they just make the most demented matchups and seem to have no clue how best to build a fighter - or do they want McCully to be a contender? if so WHY? Kongo is a great striker, they like strikers, most fans prefer strikers, match Kongo up with a good striker and the winner is a top contender

But as it is they seem to want McCully VS Hardonk 2 cos it was such a fantastic fight
