Get ready to shell out more money for UFC PPVs. A press release for UFC 81 notes that prices for the PPV are going up to $44.95 from $39.95.

Still resonable considering that they compensate with many free events on Spike and others networks to come like probably CBS .

Free events are not compensation for raising ppv prices. No correlation at all.

I don't see how they can do it w/o adding the prelims and an hour to the show.

Well i say they probably won't add the prelims to it, because then the UFC on demand loses one aspect that makes it attractive to the consumer.

I would rather watch commercials than pay this much for an event.

the free events are compensate for the rising price in the sence that instead of having to pay 39.99$ for every events all years long, you will have to pay 44.99$ but more and more events are going to be free on spike and CBS probably.

so at the end, if a guy was going to watch every events anyways, he will not see a difference for the total of the years.

i have free PPV..so it really makes no difference, unless they imrpove the show, probably not but always a possibility....i think they need to change the intro, i hate the gladiator theme, they should make a new one

I spend my 40 bucks on 16 beer and watch it in a pub instead.

On a related note , hopefully the fighters salaries will compensated accordingly in response to the extra revenue.

Ya right.

First off, your math doesn't add up. The # of ppv events hasn't decreased. The # of events doesn't average the same way or anything. Right now we're up to 13 ppv's /yr. 08 might be more cuz they are having a Jan one they didn't on 07. The free events are not ppv level, and they are an addition. Someone who wants to get every ppv is paying almost $75/yr more at $5 /event.

The free events are because they are growing to be a "real" sport. All real sports are on free tv. Boxing has to largely rely on ppv #s cuz noone watches all the free boxing. We should be working towards a level like football, baseball, hockey, rugby, almost any other sport makes enuf off adverts to not need ppv. Not charging more for 5 fights and a maybe.

I also don't need to pay for ppv's but I think that isn't the discussion.
