im talking about the first events from 1 to 9, ive seen fights from many of them but ive never watched a full event. i saw them on dvd at best buy but i dont want to buy one that sux. heres what im looking for:
1) exciting fights- fights like don frye vs tank abbott or the one where goodridge knocks out the wrestler.
2) intrigue- fights that are interesting matchups like kickboxer vs kung fu guy or wrestler vs bjj
3) big name fights- fights with fighters that are important to mma, like royce gracie, ken & frank shamrock, don frye, tank abbott, ect...
ive heard that ufc 6 is pretty good but i wanted to hear from u guys who have seen all the earliest ones

you can go to Wikipedia and look for every event, all the fights are listed with descriptions and results. There's plenty of info that may help you choose.
Personally, I like 8 (David vs. Goliath, they matched up Big guys vs small ones in the 1st stage of the tournament)

UFC 5, this is the first event where ground and pound was really utilized. Dan Severn was a ******* bruiser in this tournament.
UFC 6 is great because I am a big fan of Oleg Taktarov, and you get to see him go all the way in this one.
However, out of the first 9, I will have to go with UFC 8 as being the best, which is the debut of Gary Goodridge and Don Frye. These guys cleaned house through the entire tournament. Great card.
You can't go wrong with any of these classic to be quite honest. They are all very entertaining to watch.

I also nominate UFC 8 as being the best. UFC 2 is also great, and has one of the most brutal matches ever in Orlando Veet vs some 2nd string kickboxer from NY. Then from 12 onward, they're all basically worth watching, and it starts looking more and more like real MMA.

I have to go with UFC 5. The first-ever superfight is a classic between Shamrock and Gracie. I don't think that this fight ever gets the credit that it deserves as being one of the best ever. A lot of people don't like the way that it ends, but that is beside the point. If you watch the entire thing, then you won't be disappointed. Plus, Oleg Taktarov and Dan Severn are on this card.
Really though, you can't go wrong. If you want to start a real collection, then go with UFC 1 and start from the beginning. If you are just a casual fan looking for one or two early DVDs, however, then go with this and then UFC 8: David vs. Goliath.

OMG, I rented UFC Hits Vol. 1 & 2 which was the early fights in the UFC. Don't know if that was the actual name of the DVD's but theres 2 volumes of a DVD that they show the best classic fights.
OMG there so freakin' crazy!!!! It's nothing but knockouts really because bakc then thats all there were, crazy 1 minute finishes!!!
My personal favorite was Dan Severn's debut. HOLY SHAT!!!! He slammed the dude like 20 times before choking him out. It was sick! Then there was some fat black guy getting pounded on by some skinny white guy. It was great stuff!!!
So I RECOMMEND those two DVD's if you want to see the true UFC classics!!! Freakin' SICK!!!

No offense dude, but Gracie-Shamrock in that superfight is WORST. FIGHT. EVER. It's a 35 minute snorefest. If I had to pick a classic event (I have the first 6, am planning to get 7 and 8) I'd have to say 3 largely for the controversy surrounding Gracie not being able to fight his last fight and how the final turned out.

I think UFC IV is the best because of the final matchup with Gracie and Severn. It tells you a lot about why their respective styles became so dominant in the future of the sport.
And I like UFC 1 as well. It was really style vs. style there and not only do you see Royce have an easy time of bigger opponents, but forgotten in his run was how devastating Ken Shamrock and Gerard Gordeau were in their first fights. The overall impression from that tournament is that technique > power.

The classics DVD shows Orlando Weit and Lucarelli, Scott Morris vs. Sean Daugherty, and Pat Smith vs Ray Wizard. They didnt show the rest of the prelims though.
