The showdown had been billed and labeled as a potential fight of the year candidate. Most mixed martial arts insiders figured the stylistic matchup between lightweights Roger Huerta and Clay Guida was a recipe for fireworks, a guarantee that fans would receive an early Christmas gift.

Both Huerta and Guida made the pundits look like experts.

In a fight that was as exhilarating as it was dramatic, once-beaten contender Huerta was forced to muster the strength of 10 tigers to score an unbelievable come-from-behind victory early in the third round.

good read, nice to see sherdog look at a ufc event objectively, btw guida vs. huerta was definately a candidate for fight of the year.

I've always thought huerta was for real but last night he proved to everone that he is the real deal

Not to take anything from huerta but ... guida beats him in a rematch ... if he wants to be a top flight contender ... he needs to improve his takedown D ... there are way better wrestlers then guida in the light weigth divsion ... if he figths edgar or even florian he loses ... but good 2 see him come through

though Huerta pulled this win out of his ass i'm still not impressed that he could beat the top 4 guys in the division. BJ, Daddy, Sherk (dont yell at me that he's stripped), or KenFlo. BJ i would loooooooooooooooooove to see destroy 'latino sensation' El Matador!!!?!?!?!? ZOMG!

After watching the Huerta fight..it proved he has a ton of heart, good composure , and very good striking and cardio..

but he seriously lacks td defense for someone who is supposedly a wrestler ..
