In a meeting with Ultimate Fighting Championship president Dana White last Tuesday, current heavyweight champion Randy Couture turned down a proposed title defense against Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira at UFC 81 on Feb. 2, 2008.
There was also some fence mending to be done at the meeting. Following Couture’s resignation from the UFC in October, the two went a couple of rounds through the media, disputing the basis of the resignation. With the meeting, Couture said he was able to air out the issues addressed in his decision and looks forward to a cooperative relationship with his employer of eleven years.
“We’ve cleared the air, and hopefully we’ll move forward with some sort of relationship,” Couture said. “I’ve got a lot of fighters and a lot of things that hinge around mixed martial arts and the UFC as well. I want to continue to work with them and I think that they want to continue to work with me, so we’ll figure out how that happens.”

I heard this news a while ago, it sucks, and I've also heard the UFC will be trying to get Randy out from being mentioned in any UFC broadcast.

That's just immature. The regular fans know who he is. The hardcore fan know all the fighters who train at his gym. People arn't going to begin to forget about Randy.
He's in the HoF for f*ck's sake.

So whats the go with the belt?? Every time I check UFC.com, Randy is still the champ?
It will be sad if they try to pretend like his not there all the time, UFC 78, He was there and they said nothing (About there HW champ). Any other time he came on camera Joe and Mike stop what there saying and go, And there he his, The natural, etc.
I just really hope that some time in the very near future some how Randy gets to SMASH fedor, I think all this is his fault, Damn you Fedor.

somehow i doubt that the ufc is gonna try and omit couture from all the press coverage. Its obvious that they're not gonna focus on him more than they need to, but it an equally obvious decision not to make him try and disappear via media coverage.. he's too big a part of the ufc legacy.

It's all a business and this has cost the UFC a ton of money.

Like ufcboss said, he was in Karos corner at the last PPV, and the commentators didn't even mention it, whereas any time Greg Jackson, Duke Rufus, or any other top level trainers are on camera, they bring it up. It was obviously they were told not to talk about him, which is childish, but whatever.

Meh...I wish I could have seen Randy vs Big Nog. BJJ vs Grecco. One of my dream HW fights. Wish it would have happened. Sad it didn't happen. Good Luck Randy to whatever you do. You won't ever be forgotten!

The commentators did mention that Randy was in Karo's corner, however if you go back and watch Randy actually hides his face behind the cage and they never show him in between rounds, nor do you hear his voice. I actually mentioned to my brother during the PPV that it seemed they were going out of their way to NOT put Randy up at all.

If Randy honeslty feels he is the #2 HW in the world and thinks Fedor is the onyl fight he has to fight then he is WRONG! He should of taken this fight regardless of money and im sorry to say it but his legacy is tainted now becuase of this, he could have maybe beaten Big Nog but now we will never know

I'm sure Sylvia-Nog will be for the title then. I'm fine with that. How many fights do you guys really expect a 44 year old multi-millionaire to fight? It was obvious to me that he wasn't going to be a long-term champ. Fedor really is the only fight that makes sense for him.

I have a lot of respect for Randy, but this nuthugging is so ridiculous. seems like everyday there is a new thread about him being the greatest HW, and how he would destroy fedor. randy isnt even close to #1 at HW. his record at heavyweight speaks for itself, not too good. now randy always gives a hell of a fight, and the guy is old as dirt so i can see the appeal, but lets be realistic. he retired because he was getting beat up at LHW, came back and beat tim sylvia, and an overrated gonzaga. imo randy is at the lower end of the top ten, if he even deserves that. and defending him by saying fedor is the only fight that makes since is stupid. big nog made since, he is one of the top HW in the world. maybe randy is saying fedor because he knows he cant fight him, because fedor isnt signed to the ufc.
not trying to bash randy, just the fans cause it is getting so deep in here that im going to have to put on some rubber boots to wade through this shxt.

If Randy was really so determined to fight Fedor to secure his legacy, he really should be taking fights from top 10 HWs. The more of those guys he beats, the more likely Fedor is to take the fight, assuming Fedor keeps winning. If Fedor loses in the near future than you will jump him in everyones mind.
