Hey guys. As most of you know that I write an MMA column for scrubsports.com and I'm asking for your opinions of some 2007 UFC Awards. Please nominate your winners in your comments. I will take the top five at each category by weeks end (12-2) and then the voting will go from there. I will also include an non-UFC awards at a later date! UFC Fighter Of The Year- Randy Couture- The Natural once again proved why he is the living legend Randy Couture. At his age he was always going into a major fight billed as the "underdog". But after two convincing wins against Tim Sylvia and Gabriel Gonzaga can anyone really consider Couture a underdog anymore?
Fight Of The Year- Huerta vs. Garcia- Two fighters that literally left it all in the cage. From round 1-3 nonstop action neither man willing to give in to fatigue or pain. 99% of MMA is about heart and both warriors showed tremendous heart in this instant classic.
Card Of The Year- UFC 76 Knock Out- Griffin vs.Tavares, Fitch vs. Sanchez fights plus the most shocking upset of the year (IMO) Griffin over Shogun makes this the best card of the year for me.
Best Up and Comer- Thiago Silva- Thiago looks to be a force in the LHW division. He wins quickly and convincingly. I see him in a title fight before the end of next year.
Biggest Loser of 2007- Cro Cop- Because of all the hype and expectation not to mention the money that was spent on him to come to the UFC only to lose his last two fights to two unranked fighters.
Moment Of The Year- Was when the #2 ranked heavyweight in the world Cro-Cop stepped into the cage and made his UFC debut.
Best KO- Had to have been Gonzaga's right high kick that sent the heavily favored Cro-Cop crumpling to the mat.
Best Submission-Din Thomas's slick arm bar win against Jeremy Stephens.
To quote Din " I'm slick as a motherfu*@er" and yes Din that arm bar was slick as a mother.
