I love MMA and am a fan of the UFC. I continue hearing that as the hollywood writers strike continues the possibility of more reality TV (that doesnt require the writers guild) becomes more likely. Foremost being discussed is bringing MMA to broadcast television, namely CBS and NBC. This is huge in terms of mainstream acceptance.

UFC is said to be in talks with CBS, and NBC is going after the next level tier....IFL, probably M-1, or K1 Heros. I am wondering if any MMA fans out there have any news or updates on this situation. Here are some links:

Thoughts?

I sure hope the UFC can seal a deal with CBS that would get alot of mainstream acceptance and it just means more UFC to watch.

im guessing if a deal gets done it will be for only a couple of live events at first with a longer deal contingent on the ratings being up to snuff. if the shows do well, i wouldnt be surprised at all to see a show like all access, or unleashed show up as part of a regular weekly lineup for cbs. this writers strike could be bigger than TUFs success was for mma because a network deal gets you a helluva lot more exposure to the masses than a cable channel. i just hope they strike while the iron is hot and get the deal done.

Its very possible around spring 08. I think its funny though how these stations all bashed mma and called it cockfighting meanwhile they decide to try to give it airtime.

I hope that the numbers that the UFC gets on Spike doubles, or triples. I know there are a lot of fans who don't get Spike so I hope this helps.. Then with what new fans it might get, I hope they don't immediately go and get rid of it when their regular shows come back. Put it on a Saturday night, and broadcast a UFC Access/Unleashed late at night on Saturday, between then and Sunday morning. That's the only time they'd really give to the show, so why not? I hope they don't pick it up, and then drop it when they feel like it..

I actually think IFL would make more sense on CBS just because of the MyNetworkTV deal. If I remember correctly, CBS actually either owns part of or is a partner in providing programming to MNTV, so that would sound like a more obvious choice. As for UFC on NBC, I am also wondering now if they would also include some WEC programming. True, WEC only runs once every 2-3 months on TV, but they'd get far more exposure on NBC than they do on Versus, if just because NBC is a network we can all find easily.

who would mind if they did that? great idea, get it out there for people to see, maybe make the rules sway more towards strikers (like standing it up faster etc) lots of people still dont like mma sometimes i agree it can get boring
