More garbage talk. Everyone bitches about MMA. The supposed fans bitch more than the detractors and opponents.
If you don't like MMA, shut up, turn it off and go find something you do like...if that's possible...

We need more Octagon Girls with less clothes, that will be a +1 to the UFC.

Exactly the reason that MMA is seen as a joke...

Proof that people take some things too seriously that make themselves blind to jokes...

It was a dumb joke tho...and i agree... that is the reason that mma is seen as a joke...

lol.. i thought it was funny ^^

This article is through and through a great example of someone who knows very little about the sport, yet tries to criticize it. Ali wouldnt last 5 minutes in the cage with the first guy eliminated from any of the TUF series. Why? because they're not the same sport. Its like putting lance armstrong in triathalon if he didnt know how to swim.

He's taken all of the ignorant criticisms of the last few years and used them to write an article. And you know what.. everyone is entitled to their opinion, the doode can think and say whatever he wants, and i dont think it's gonna hurt the sport's reputation. Look at the response to this article, he looks like a bitch more than anything.

The one thing i dont like about this article though is the name calling. **** you. And dont try and drag the kids into this. I have younger siblings who watch this stuff, and i have friends who have younger siblings who watch. A few of them have asked to start taking "ufc classes" and they've even started trying submission grappling on their own when the parents arent looking. The difference between that and the play fighting they'd be doing otherwise at that age is that they're doing it with some amazing sportsmanship and have a great fundemental meaning of what it means to tap out -- that was a great submission, lets go again.

"Ive seen better fight on "The Contender""

I think that pretty much sums up my opinion of him.
Im sure if the Zuffa's didn't show UFC live and instead took the bouts into the editing room and put every exchange and takedown in SLOW MOTION it would look way cooler to this guy.

I would like to see the UFC stand guys up more. Like Sherk puts me to sleep, it's great that he's a very good wrestler, and it's great that he's so strong but no one I know likes to watch him fight. Thats one of the reasons I don't think signing Lesnar was a good idea, he'll be overwhelmed with the striking of these guys and will then resort to lay n pray.

There is a time to joke, and there is a time to be serious. And when someone is verbally bashing your favorite sport, you shouldn't respond with jokes.

I have almost come to the conclusion that a lot of MMA fans are exactly what this guy thinks they are. Just read the rest of this thread, and you will see very few intelligent arguments. You see guys says, "F this guy, he's an idiot," but people aren't backing it up. If you want to show him that we are better than he is, then respond with an intelligent arugment and he'll realize that he's outclassed. For the first time, the majority of MMA fans have disappointed me.

And, for those of you who don't know, McNulty has a history of being very conservative. My comments were not meant as an attack to all right-wing citizens, just to him. Sorry if I generalized too much there.

I'm not going to get onto him.. I wish he would keep his thoughts to himself. I can understand not being able to find the great things in a sport. Where I love and enjoy MMA, Football and sometimes Basketball, there are sports like Tennis, Soccer, Baseball, and Golf that I can't find anything redeeming in to warrant me watching. i don't however spend time talking about how I can't watch them, and then call them 'plain boring.' I would rather just spend more time looking up a fight that I have never seen than write up about how I didn't like Baseball.

Now, about the whole Din Thomas thing. I hate what he has done to the image of this sport. If he's innocent then he's innocent, but there will still be that black stain on the image of this sport. To the uneducated on this sport, there will always be this, "only prime apes watch MMA" mentality. Will that stop me from watching it? No. Like Sherk, I won't watch another of Din's fight unless he's proven innocent, but that's just me.

As for his whole, "pummeling somebody who's lying on his back, trying not to get hit" comment, that can't be helped.. If one of the fighters decides that he's given up, then that's him. The other guy isn't going to go to his corner and sit down, and wait for his opponent to work up the nerve to fight again. He's going to finish the fight. I could easily say that seeing boxer's backpedal to avoid getting hit is just as bad. I don't mind the backpedalling though.

As for the grapplers, there are four types of people out there.. The type who enjoys pure striking, the type who enjoys pure grappling, the type who enjoys both, and those out for blood. McNulty is either just a pure striking fan, or just out for blood. He shouldn't discredit grappling because he enjoys striking more.. In my opinion it takes twice as much skill to escape a submission than it does to duck a punch, but guess what, I love both. Seeing two guys swinging for the fences is just as exciting as seeing two skilled submission artists rolling around in a chess match of holds.

I do believe Mr. McNulty is an old schooler, because this sport is for the young. I watched UFC 72 at a local hooters, and 90% of the people there were under 30. When you see guys like Chris Horodecki(20), Tamdan McCrory(20), Joe Riggs(25), Diego Sanchez(26), and Joe Stevenson(25), you need not wonder if this sport is for the young people or the older generation. You can tell he's not meant for the UFC following, when he brings up a "young Mike Tyson" instead of current boxing stars, like Mayweather. The only problem is that the boxing world of yesteryears are not the same as these years, where there are 1000's of titles and no real #1.

Everyone has a problem with the 'more you drink, the tougher you are' fans. They are the same fans who boo when there isn't enough action. You just ignore them. Those same fans are also in boxing Mr. McNulty, so don't classify it as just the UFC's hardcore fan base, okay?

Either way. It's up to him if he thinks it's plain old boring.. Then let him think that. I know that not all fights are boring, because I and Penn, Edgar, Griffin, Guida, Florian, Tavarres, Silva, Franklin, Hamill, Couture, and so on would all disagree.

I am going to sum up every post on this topic in the following paragraph, so for those you just reading it or checking in on previous posts, read this and no further to save yourself some time. Anyway, like any topic on earth you have a-holes on both sides of the fence trying to get a rise out of opposition in one direction or another. I have been following MMA probably before anyone on this site (although my season rank or record doesn’t reflect it). What I have to say to nay-sayers or those few boxing and combat sport "purists" is this. A corporation widely regarded as the "authority" in sports broadcasting, will continuously broadcast boxing, wrestling, kickboxing and from time to time Muy-Thia or BBJ tournaments, but the application of all these martial arts mixed into one bout is suddenly "not a sport". People look to get a reaction out of us and to prove their point in a hostel reaction from those few who threaten columists who comment on the sport ONLY TO GET THAT REACTION! Fellow fans, don’t give them the satisfaction! Times will change and soon enough those self appointed sports experts may even come around. Surely not everyone will the same way boxing or wrestling still draw people who cry violence or this or that. Sure kids will try it at home as they try to "pro"-wrestle, box or power ranger style kung-foo. Although, sure a disclaimer before an MMA event wouldn’t hurt. Scroll down and read opinions from all walks of life, but I say stop here to avoid the excruciating minutiae of everyday MMA arguments, now years and years old and surely years and years to come. And somebody give me props if you think I said it all.

my bad I realized it could be a real writer and not a sherdog threadstarter. just another boxing vs mma, because he said the UFC I was thinking it was someone that was wanting to stick it to the Man or the UFC, I guess that is why you do not jump to conclusions.

He has his points but it is just an opinion and he can have it.

Saying it is irresponsible to watch it because kids might do it is retared because kids could do the same with boxing.

Funny that he said that the contender is more entertaining and the UFC is real in the same paragraph because you could contend that the Contender edits their fights in order for them to be more entertaining. MMA is real, it is not tainted by sleezy promoters and gamblers paying people to take a dive, well I am not sure about Pride, whatever. But that is what boxing is known for.

That is the thing though if you only watched UFC 77 or UFC 72 and were not hooked by the concept or possibilities then it could be contrued as a boring sport. I think this makes the sport even more timeless and REAL, there are so many different factors in a fight that things are not always balls to the wall.

I am so pissed that I spent this long on a post no one is going to read and about a guy that would never even consider liking the UFC because people that drink beer might be associated with him, go back to your over priced condo and drink you over priced wine, not because they are better but because someone told you it was cool, guess who is the loser? Boxing is dead, a bunch of greedy people killed it, MMA is just mopping up. KEEP MMA REAL SPIT ON A YUPPIE, heh heh
