Well Teams dont mean so much its pretty much just a way to join a group a have your own little community.
The league well the winner of each event for Wagers($) and Picks (points) get real money prizes as well winners of a season (10 events) get real money prizes.

After UFC 79. Right now we are going onto event #8 UFC 78, #9 will be TUF 6 finale and UFC 79 will be #10. After that a new season will start with the next event.
