Good Read. He talks about who he'd like to fight, that the UFC has contacted him, and that he should be fighting in December.

I was suprised to hear that he ranks himself at 8-5 in LW's... pretty humble guy... Hope to see a fight with JT in Dec, maybe?

I can't even put him in my top ten yet, his opponents are still just a little lacking for that yet. 1 win vs a good oponent though and I will rank him. Sorry but a split decision over Clay Guida just isn't enough for me.

You did not mention that Melendez has only 13 fights to his name. I wonder when people will stop having wet dreams over each fighter with zero losses.
I remember when Diego was still undefeated and half of the people in this forum were having orgasms thinking about how he will destroy everybody in his weight class. Same thing with Brandon Vera. As soon as they got one loss to their records, everybody completely forgot about them and moved on.
Power of the zero.

I've been saying for a while i want to see him fight BJ et al, and I stand by that. Was Kawajiri not a good opponent? Just an example. I want to see him dominate til his contract is up and move to UFC. By then he'll be more experienced etc and should be competing w/ anyone, IMO.

i agree that he hasnt had a lot of fights, but theyre always super entertaining and if you saw the fight with guida, it was not a SD, gil won that fight convincingly. Obiya was gomi's top student, and Kawajiri is top ten material at lightweight.
I think the reason people rank him high for the amount of fights is that he was so dominant at 145 that pequeno ran from him for like a year and a half, as he dominated the rest of the japanese shooto circuit.
I would love to see gil fight BJ or JZ

I just said that because Gilbert said "I put myself between 5 and 8." I think he should come into the UFC, but I personally could not put him in the top ten just yet.

good stuff. i guess if the own guy puts himself between 5-8, just out of the top ten isnt too far off.

If he did come to the UFC I would hope that they gave him a good fight, say the looser of the Huerta v Guida fight.

I think he's just tryin not to hype himself and sound like an ass real young. I have him higher.

if he ends up in the ufc id like to see him fight huerta or kenny florian. i actually wish they had picked him as their hispanic poster boy instead of huerta. i think if he and huerta fight, roger would get exposed. but i also think that clay guida will do the same when they fight in early december.

I could see him head to K-1 to fight JZ and Shaolin.
