It's not that hard to avoid staph - shower after you grapple and wash your mats.
And if you think you have staph see a doctor ASAP.
Randleman's staph didn't happen overnight.

One in four people? Hate to tell you, but Staphylococcus Aureus is pretty much everywhere, all the time.
I'm sure Randleman didn't just let this happen to him. It's easy to say "Oh he should have taken a shower" or whatever, but granted that he has been wrestling for so long, Im sure he has seen Steph before and obviously didn't want it himself. Shit happens I'm afraid.
