Hey guy, anybody that reads my posts or chat with me knows I'm a huge Hansen fan and follow him pretty close. Up until recently it seemed very likley that he was very discourged by the whole post PRIDE limbo and the poor offer he got from the UFC and was going to retire and return to Amateur Boxing and kickboxing in his native Norway. But about a month ago and said he was tentatively considering a return to MMA in 2008 after his former pride contract (Which was apparently bought by Zuffa) ran out.
Well, apparently, Zuffa has deigned it necesscary to remove him from his contract obligation and he has subsequently cut a deal with his original MMA launching board, the venerable (and totally awesome) SHOOTO organization. His latest go around in the organization is set to kick off on November 8th with a bout against the game and vastly Improved Eiji Mitsuoka of Japan. This fight is apparently a done deal According to the Mitsuoka camp, so I'm pumped. Hellboy is back!
Joachim hasn't said much publicly but the rumours coming his camp and fan speculation seems to point to the Conclusion of Hansen planning to regain his 154lb title within the organization. And though there is nothing solid to back it there has also been some early, and very speculative, talk of him eventually going up in Weight to rematch Grappling phenom Shinya Aoki for his 167lb SHOOTO strap. If true, this would not only give Hansen a chance to improve his last Pro defeat, but in victory he would become the first multi-weight Champion in the sport/organization's history.
Well that's all guys, just wanted to let the other fans out there know what was up with the man. I really hope Joachim tears it up in Shooto again, beats Aoki, and comes to the board with substantially more Bargaining chips to sign a favorable deal with another big show.

I hope he hasn't signed an extensive deal with them, I'd like to see Hansen go to M-1.

lol, that would be interesting to see. I am assuming if they signed him they would get other guys in his weightclass as well.

If I got to choose he'd fight in WEC´s 145 division. He's talked about moving down a long time now and I think he would tear that division apart. It's also for WEC´s sake I'd love to see him there. I love the events that they've put on recently and I really hope they have some success and bring in more quality fighters.

I wish he would've went to HEROES to rematch JZ and have atleast 5-6 good matchups, but with SHOOTO, who does he have to fight? Maybe one or two good matchups but HEROES would've been better IMO.

SHOOTO is very stacked and has a ton of under The radar fighters at 143, 154, and 167, all divisions Hansen could theoretically make weight at. But yeah, the 154 division in HEROS definitely has some great potential fights as well and I would like to see him there in the future. Man, Joachim in Wec would be sick too! he'd be rather big at the weight now and freakishly strong, and would be an instant contender. They are slowly but surely adding some solid talent to that division and Joachim would surely have been a good add and had exciting fights. It's all food for thought I suppose. I jsut wish hin the best of luck and hope he makes it back near the top of a division, which is where he belongs.

I heard they tried, but he didn't like their offer... Sorry, no source, and I can't remember where I heard it... Guess that doesn't help too much, lol

It came from his mouth, he said they tried to pay him almost half as less as he was being payed in Pride.

Guys like him have all the talent in the world, but kind of slip under the radar with the casual fan. Definitely affects the payday, thats for sure. He just wouldnt draw. Which is a shame, really.

hmm I don't know about that. I think he stands out perfectly with his pale, scrawny, scary-looking look and his fighting style is very exciting to say the least. If he got 1 or 2 fights under the Zuffa banner, the fans would be hooked.
