Is anyone else pumped for this fight. This has the possibility of being fight of the year. Both fighters are explosive and have impressive records versus solid competition. This is the type of fight that excited me when the UFC purchased Pride.

Chonan is a beast at 14-7 with wins over Anderson Silva, Mach Sakurai and Carlos Newton and loses to Filho, Henderson and Baroni. Granted he does go to decisions a lot he has some action packed fights unlike Machida.

Thiago Alves is IMO one of the top 170 lb strikers in the world. At 12-3 he has victories over Marcus Davis, John Alessio and Tony DeSouza. Loses to Fitch and Spencer Fisher. He usually goes balls out and either gets the KO or gets KO'd.

I just want to know others thoughts about this one and how they ee it going down.

i was going with chonan for his size avantage, well the fact that he is a 185 fighter, but after reviewing some alves fights, i have changed my mind and i am going with alves, it should be a tuff fight for alves but in the ufc of 2007 there is no more easy fight, so alves should come well prepare for the fight and make somekind of statement .

I am PUMPED for this fight, too bad its on the undercard, I hope Chonan can win this one for PRIDE! Same goes with Gono.
However, I have seen Alves recent fights and he does look good, but I do not think he could KO Chonan, and thereford see the fight go in a decision.
My pick is Chonan by Split decision. Alot of tradebacks to start out, and after they tire a bit I see it going on the ground for the majority of the fight.

GO Chonan!

They're a lot of people who do not know who Chonan is and thats got to be why the discrepancy so large.

I do not know if Chonan has the strength advantage over Alves. This will be a very interting fight but I am very disappointed to hear that the fight is on the undercard.

I do see it ending in a decision as well.

Chonan is a very good...however not great...fighter. Alves is on that road to being great, and I dont see any reststops anytime soon. I think he will KO Chonan late in round 2.

Now this is a travesty that it is not a viewed fight....this is a Pride guy actually getting screwed! Alves and Chonan both deserve a shot to be viewed on PPV....Usually I don't stand with the pride guys but this time it's a little F-ed up IMO!!

chonan will win this fight. i am also surprised that soo many people think alves is gonna win. all i have to say is flyng scissor heel hook against anderson silva, thats it, just b/c of that chonan in my mind is a favorite. seriously though, chonan is way more experienced and will show how a true well rounded fighter does in the octagon. chonan by submission in my mind.

It should be a great fight and it will be close I think. I have Alves winning this figt though because I think his striking is just amazing, and historically I think Chonan handles grapplers a lot better than strikers.

He had that win over Silva, but Silva has really grown and his striking wasnt where it is today. Thats not an excuse, I mean Chonan was better on that night, Im just saying.

Alves by 3rd round KO I think
