After some uncertainty due to visa issues, Hector Lombard (11-2-1 MMA, 0-0 UFC) will be permitted to enter the U.S. to take on welterweight contender Karo Parisyan (17-4 MMA, 7-2 UFC) at UFC 78.

This seems like a big step backwards for Karo. He has fought nothing but caliber opponents since he fought GSP at UFC 46 and that was in Jan '04. It is hard for me to believe that Karo would even accept this fight, not because this guy isnt any good, but because nobody in the mainstream has heard of him. Maybe Joe Silva and Dana White know something we dont...

ya karo should be getting a shot at the title (he has a string of wins, he was up for a title fight but got injured and was never given another chance, and he has a win over the current belt holder), but the problem is giving away a title shot to a winner of a reality show who didn't get in line and work his way up like everyone else is that the Welter Weight division is set back by atleast a year. then to compound problems dana made the next season of TUF all WW's, so we have to wait for that to end for Serra's first title defense.
it will be another 6-8 months until we are back to where the WW division should have been 3 or 4 months ago.

Well he has a good mma record with 2 fights in PRIDE FC but the most important things are that he is dropping to 170 so will be BIG and he was in the olympics with his judo so pitting him against Karo may make for a better fight than any of Karos we have seen before!!!!

This isnt new news! the latest on mmajunkie is that its off, but as it so happens i did see it today on the fightnetwork and they say the UFC arent scratching Lombard from the roster as they hope to get the visa issues sorted in time

Last I read about it was an article yesterday on Sherdog and today on MMANews (which cites the Sherdog article), both say the fight is off.
