Upheaval. That's the best way to describe what September has done to Sherdog.com's mixed martial arts rankings.
How does the light heavyweight division look after the No. 1 and 3 fighter fell to unranked competitors?

serra #1 WW is a joke. yeah he beat gsp, but 9 out of 10 times gsp would've won that fight. i would put gsp number 1.

Well he beat GSP when he was number one, Matt Hughes had just got KO'd by GSP, so where else would you put him. He deserves the number one spot.
I think they did a supreb job with the LHW rankings. That weight class is a tank full of sharks. Actually I agree with all the rankings except Gomi.
He hasn't done shit since getting gogoplata four months ago by Diaz. I think JZ or Sherk (although that roid thing is in the way) should be number one. Either one of these guys would IMO would stick it to Gomi. I bet Gilbert would too, but he's too busy fighting in front of naked ladies (major props to Melendez for landing that gig).
What I love most is Tito isn't even an LHW honorable mention anymore. God I love it, and I know you do too Nubby!

Serra is the Champ and he beat the best fighter. It is probably going to be short lived (if you can call 9 months short lived) but he still gets his moment of glory. Everyone knows he's not the best welterweight in the world, but if you look carefully at Sherdogs rankings they try not to put fighters above others they have lost to. In this case he beat St. Pierre so they rank him higher. It just happens to be # 1. In another case they put Jardine above Griffen. Even though Griffen beat a higher ranked fighter, Jardine has the win over Forrest. Same with Sanchez over Parisyan, Sanchez has lost 2 fights in a row, but he has the win over Karo, so they put him above.

the title of best in the world/no.1 ranked should be earned by more than one fight. I'd be far less against these rankings if serra beat hughes. Its similar to saying that if gsp punched me in the face and broke his hand to the point where he couldnt continue.. and miraculously i wasnt KOed, now i'm the best ww in the world right?

This is weird ............... why the hell are you all still whining about the GSP/Serra rankings when they have been like that since April but nobody is really discussing the much more debatable LHW rankings?
Well Sherdog agree with my LHW rankings as i put Jardine+Forrest in above Shogun and Chuck, i dont include Hendo tho cos im sure the UFC will make him go to 185

I'm almost to the the point were I think rankings are almost useless. If the current trend of upsets and suprise wins continues to dictate the course of MMA I can't see any top 10 list holding much ground in light of all wins coming at random.
While these upsets can be fun to watch,it's almost getting to the point were the fighters skill levels are so high, that all matches come down to the winner gaining victory at random through a little bit of luck.If this is the case,I expect to see the next generation of fighters step it up an even greater notch.
I can only imagine what the skill level for fighters might look like 5-10 years from now.

yeh wtf has serra done lately? come december hughes is gonna show him what a real fight is.
And then after that, GSP is going to destroy hughes to regain the title.
