The same Soa Palelei who threw everything he had at Mu Bae Choi and still got his ass choked out? Nah, I really don't see him getting past guys like Nogueira.

The obvious conspiracy here though, is that Choi is the ultimate fighter, hence why he never got to fight Fedor, and Dana will never sign him, because Dana knows he will take the belt and hold it until his retirement. Obviously.

A little (actually a lot) early to be thinking about being a champ. I don't even think he can win his way to a title shot that soon. The combined record of the opponents he's beat is 37-28--and none of those guys is a top contender. Plus, when you're 6'2", cutting 20 pounds to make 265 isn't a positive.

I'll wait and see. If he keeps winning, maybe I'll be more enthusiastic about him by this time next year.

Even if he wins all his fights in 2008. He still wont get a title shot till 2009.

Soa is 6'4''- 6'5'' so he is a big dude and it's not a lot of weight to cut as I have learned over my years wrestling. And if you are that tall than you can cut up to 30-35 pounds.

I got a height from his Pride profile: (http://www.pridefc.com/pride2005/index.php?mainpage=fighters&fID=232 ).

My point wasn't that the weight cut itself was too much, but that his weight was too high. Carrying extra body fat (which he is clearly carrying in his pictures, regardless of height) isn't an advantage. To win a championship he may have to fight 5, 5 minute rounds. Everybody has a different physique, but a guy Randy Couture or Big Nog's height with an extra 50 pounds of weight and the same type of muscular strength, is going to have trouble doing that.

Soa recently said in an interview that he is between 6'4'' and 6'5'' and he is with Team Quest in Tamecula with Sokoudjou, Hollywoood and Meyhem working on his cardio so I don't see him gassing like he did against Choi although you could indeed be right. But watch the staredown and see how much bigger and taller Soa is than Eddie.

To say he will be champ is a pretty bold statement which I doubt very much. That said, he will add some depth to the division.

The guy has a lot of potential, but I still haven't seen him display anything impressive on the ground. Champ in 08( or even 09 for that matter) seems like wild hyperbole to me. So I definitely voted no. A lot of people said the same thing about Mark Bocek , when he hadn't fought anyone even close top top 20, and Edgar finished him in the first. Whenever there is hype around someone unproven I generally avoid it.

I hope he's hungry, because the heavyweight division has no real hungry fighters.

Probably because the only hungry heavyweight fighters cant make the 265 cap.

I don't think he can beat Sanchez. Sanchez has a more technical stand up game. There is a long road ahead of him to be champ. Definitely not in 08, maybe (likely) never.

Well he definitely has KO power. Good striking. He has a big old head like Mart Hut so I'm pretty sure at the least he has a pretty decent chin. He looks to have a good camp so he should have an up to date ground game with decent wrestling and decent BJJ at the least.

I think he has a pretty solid shot of being a serious contender. He has all the tools. He just needs to keep them skills brushed up on and I'm pretty sure he could give anybody a tough and solid fight. I'm just not so sure about him being champion.

Like it was already mentioned. He threw everything he had in his one Pride fight and still got subbed. So that leads me to believe Big Nog can take his punishment and sub him. He'll at the least a decent threat but I think this is the Big Nog era for sure.
