UFC veteran Dan Hardy was not a fan of how Bellator 170’s main event fight between Chael Sonnen and Tito Ortiz went down. He even voiced out his frustrations via Twitter, which he later got some flak about.

“The #Bellator170 main event was more choreographed than a Brittany Spears music video. Shame really... It might have been a fun fight,” Hardy wrote in a tweet that has since been deleted.

Chill out Dan!! I like that there's a place for older fighters to go once they're prime has passed. I for one still enjoy seeing Rampage, Sonnen & Tito compete

Hardy later clarified that he meant no malice with his post, stating it was merely his instant reaction when he saw what happened during the fight. But nonetheless, Bellator CEO Scott Coker responded by saying that Viacom’s legal department would step in if anyone “questions the integrity of the company’s fights.”

Easy Coker...

Hardy hopes that Bellator would instead market the younger fighters on its roster, instead of putting on nostalgic match-ups involving elder fighters.

“I think they’ve got talent on their roster that they need to push more,” Hardy said. “And I know that they’re trying to bring in their markets with their big old names, but they don’t get the performances out of those big old names, especially with them reaching 40. They’re just not on their game any more.”

Agreed.

There's a difference between a veteran past his prime making one last push against a young and hungry competitor and two fighters who should have retired long ago. If the UFC booked a main event of Gracie & Shamrock or Kimbo & Dada 5000, I'd be screaming from the rooftops that it's a sham and a waste of young talent not being showcased. Ok, I might give Gracie/Shamrock a pass...until I saw how it went down. Then I'd be mad lol. It's just sad to see Bellator waste young talent that should be promoted. If Bellator keeps up with the sideshow main events, they cement themselves as such, a side show. They can have all co-mains they'd like with legit title fights or sick matchups. But fringe fans only pay attention to the main event. Now, I like them picking up young talent the UFC is foolishly not resigning, so hopefully in 2017 we see more of a Strikeforce model.

He was commenting on tito vs chael which didnt feature unskilled hacks like kimbo vs dada or ancient guys like gracie shamrock,or a combo like kimbo vs shamrock lol.

Tito and chael aren't too far removed from competing in the ufc.Bellator has put on 4 or 5 freak fights out of how many shows they do a year?

They are definitely promoting and signing young talent unfortunately the very few freak fights overshadow the progress abit.

Bj penn vs Rodriguez was on par with aoki vs sakuraba .....absolutely unnecessary and hard to watch.Going into this bj was on a 3 fight losing streak dating back to 2011....,,.in his fight against rory it was obvious he was done.......then they brought him back against edgar which was a complete travesty.......bj himself said he didnt belong in there. Then the ufc throws him to the wolves against a much younger killer.

Dada vs kimbo doesn't belong in this sport neither does sending old guys to the wolves.

Say what you want about royce vs shamrock or tito vs chael but they were ewual opponents ,u cant say that in bjs case.

Id rather see bj fight a guy his age like matt hughes or joe stevenson not absolutely destroyed by an obviously better opponent.
