I'm just interested to see what everyone else thought about the decision.

I really wanted to see Alvarez win, but I don't agree with the decision. The first round was pretty much all Chandler with his boxing. I thought the second round was also pretty clearly Chandler's round with his takedowns, but maybe my memory of this round is a little off. I'll be watching the fight again soon just to make sure, but I do recall thinking that Chandler was up 2-0 after the first two rounds.

I thought Alvarez did enough to win the third, Chandler did enough to win the fourth, and Alvarez obviously did more than enough to win the fifth round. Basically, my scorecard looked identical to Jimmy Smith's scorecard. I did think that maybe the judges might give Alvarez a 10-8 fifth round, but that'd still only equal out to a draw.

How did you guys score the fight? I'll be watching it again by tomorrow.

Close fight. I had out 48-47 Chandler.

It was so close though. I'm thinking the 2nd Rd was where the judges where indifferent because the other 4 rounds where a little more clear.

It wasn't a robbery by any means.

Now we get to see Part 3.

The 2nd round decides who anyone thought won. MMA sites were split on that round, so are fans, and so were the judges. Could've gone either way depending what you look for in a round. No one could've been robbed, it was just a close fight. I gave Eddie the 2nd due to landing more strikes, while being more accurate with them throughout well over half the round before Chandler grappled but imo didn't do enough once he had Eddie down (as in passes, strikes, etc.) to negate the striking disparity for the majority of the round he spent walking into punches. There really isn't a lot to debate, the 2nd just could've gone either way depending how someone weighs Chandler's final minute of grappling against what happened on the feet prior to. No right or wrong answer.

Edit: Never mind. I read the scorecards wrong.

But yeah, close fight either way. Hopefully one of them will decisively win the third fight.

I scored it for Chandler but I thought it was close. The fight was incredible though and we get to see them do it again. I'm pretty happy about it.

this fight is a good example why the method of how they judge fights should be changed.

To be honest I had it Chandler as well. Their was no question about the first few rounds for me...I had no biased at all as I am a big fan of them both. A buddy and I did disagree on a round but it wasn't the first second or fifth, we agreed on those...it was the third I am thinking. I'd have to ask him, can't remember.

I thought Chandler won clearly. Now that doesn't mean the fight wasn't close or other people could see it differently, but when talking about rounds 1,2, or 4, I would say Chandler did enough to win each one, whether by a landslide or 1 takedown.
I don't know how I feel about it since I wanted them both to win. I know how much that win means to Eddie and his career so I couldn't stand to see him lose but I like the idea that Chandler could in fact be the best lw in the world. Now that gets muddled but at least Eddie still has a lot in front of him.

I just watched the fight again for the second time, focusing mainly on the second round.

They strike for literally half the round; the first takedown by Chandler happens almost at exactly 2:30. Alvarez was winning the striking battle, but by no means was it one-sided. Chandler landed plenty of his own shots (he opened a cut under Alvarez's left eye in this round). It didn't really feel like either guy was ahead by much halfway through the round, and that's when Chandler scores his first takedown. Alvarez manages to get right back up, but then Chandler picks him up and slams him back down. Another 20 seconds or so goes by and Alvarez gets back up again, but gets slammed again. He gets back to his feet yet again, and then the next 30-40 seconds is spent with Chandler driving Alvarez into the cage until he secures another takedown.

Alvarez gets back to his feet again and they exchange for about 10-15 seconds. Alvarez lands a nice right uppercut + left hook combo here, and according to MMA Junkie this combo put Chandler down to a knee. I think that's untrue. Chandler does drop to a knee, but I thought it was pretty obvious that he was either showboating in a way or just messing around with Alvarez or something because he didn't look rocked at all. Chandler landed a really nice uppercut immediately after that as well before putting Alvarez back up against the cage and securing yet another takedown, which is his fifth takedown in under two and a half minutes.

At the end of the day it's a matter of opinion, but IMO Alvarez didn't do enough on the feet to win the round. Chandler was landing plenty of his own shots, opening a cut like I said before. Alvarez had the edge on the feet, but Chandler dictated the pace and took the fight where he wanted it to go. He was moving forward the entire time. Alvarez landed a few nice shots on the feet, but not enough that it outweighs getting thrown around for the other 2:30, especially when Chandler landed some good shots of his own while they were exchanging strikes.

So personally I think Chandler won the second round, but it was a close round and an overall close fight, and I'm not disappointed with the result.

This is the right uppercut + left hook combo by Alvarez that I was referring to before:

Back on the feet, a solid combination put Chandler to a knee, but he took the fight right back down.

So yeah, I just don't think he dropped to a knee because he was rocked.

With all that aside, Alvarez clearly did more damage:
