Unbeaten in his first 11 professional fights, Alexis Vila is now a free agent after back-to-back losses.

The 41-year-old Vila (11-2 MMA, 2-2 BFC) told MMAjunkie.com Radio (www.mmajunkie.com/radio) that he has been released by Bellator following a loss to Luis Nogueira in the opening round of the promotion's season-six bantamweight tournament, which took place this past Friday at Bellator 65.

Now, the former Olympian plans a move to flyweight, and hopefully, to the UFC.

"I know that [bantamweight is] not my weight class, so I want to prove I'm the best flyweight in the world," Vila said.

Vila, a bronze-medalist wrestler at the 1996 Olympics representing his native Cuba, said he walks around between the 135 and 140 pounds, which may have placed him at a disadvantage against bantamweights who cut between 15-20 pounds to make the 135-pound limit.

He would be a gread addition to the UFC's flyweight roster. They need to scoop up all the talent they can in that weight class at this point.

Vila is a tough guy and adds another man to the division with knockout power which makes things interesting

He's overrated...an olympic wrestler who only wants to stand and bang cuz he KO'd Joe Warren(whoopty doo)...his performance this past friday was absolutely pitiful.

Great move. He belongs at 125 and he doesn't have a lot of time left, being 40. He hits like a truck and has some solid wrestling. He should do well in the small division.

They should if only for the name. Those lower weights need all the known fighter they can get to build interest. Same applies to any small organization that headlines a card with Phil Baroni or Tank Abbott

Zuffa to Zuffa vs Bellator to Zuffa...Picking him up after two losses in Bellator would be a weak business move. It won't happen until he wins elsewhere, if at all.

Theyll probazbly have him pick up a win in some random promotion before. It seems its standard policy for UFC now not to pick up poeple coming off of losses.

yes, i believe that is his natural weight class. he wrestled in the olympics at 48 kg, which is something like 105lbs. the ufc better make this happen soon, this guy isnt getting any younger.
