Strikeforce Welterweight Champion Nick Diaz retained his title in a thrilling one round bout against Paul Daley on Showtime. With only 3 seconds left in the round, Daley questions the stoppage by referee Big John McCarthy which ended the fight: (via Facebook)
"Is in good health. Some u win, some u lose. A little frustrating, I made mistakes I told myself I wouldn't do. A little to rushed. Think the stoppage was early, especially with so little time left in the round. Now some timw off, a few holidays and some downtime. See what's next. Team Semtex all day. Love u all....still, including the... HATERS. Mwah."

He wasn't out. His feet were wobbly but he was still fighting back. The ref could have stopped the fight when daley was on top of diaz raining down punches also. I would have liked to see a 2nd round myself.

The fact that he couldn't stand on his feet is enough for me. I've seen way worse stoppages than that. That one made sense to me.

There is only one way to avoid situations like this. Don't leave it in the hands of the ref.

Maybe if he had a ground game of any kind he could have tied Diaz up instead of flailing his arms and legs like a turtle stuck on its back. That defense wasnt very intelligent.

That was genuinely funny. Couldn't prop though, as I have to STL.

i thought it was early he fell but he wasn't out. no worse than when diaz fell. seemed like big jon was out of position then ran around both fighters and just stopped the fight looked like diaz landed about 3 punches and big jon just stopped it. i wouldn't mind watching these 2 go at it 1 more time

It was early for sure. When there are only 3 seconds left in the round, you gotta give a little more leeway.

Nothing early about it. His eyes were gone.:30 or 3:00 doesn't matter when someone's head is getting knocked in. Did everyone see him after? He was gone. It was maybe late, Def not early. Great call.

To be honest the amount of time left in the round should have NO affect.
It was a DEFINITELY justified stoppage - and i have seen WAY worse.
Daley was out - the only thing that woke him up was hitting the mat after doing a chicken dance.
Anyone who says this was an early stoppage probably has never been on the brink of KO before.

A poor stoppage without question. Moments earlier Diaz was dropped and was in the same position as Paul was...yet he was given time to fight through it...but when Paul got dropped he was given zero leeway.

Maybe Paul was finished, but the major problem I have is the lack of consistency.

With a few second left the ref could have had it go another round
He looked fine when he got up

You mean when he struggled getting onto the stool with 2 people helping him?

that doesn't look fine to me.
