The numbers are in, and they are not pretty: EA Sports' first entry into the world of mixed martial arts videogames, EA Sports MMA, has failed to make an impact on the market despite decent reviews and excellent word-of-mouth.
The game sold just 45,000 units in its release month, according to an article at GameIndustry.biz that references a report by analyst Cowen & Company. To put this in perspective, the original UFC Undisputed 2009 sold over 1 million copies across PS3 and Xbox 360 in its first month of release according to market research firm NPD , and even the rather lukewarmly received 2010 edition managed 413,000. The poor sales do not seem to be limited to North America, either, as Chart Track numbers for PAL territories show the game failing to crack the top 20 in its debut week.

it sucks but what can you do. Still very interested to see if EA sticks by Moore's statement or if they jump off the ship. Where their's no money their's no sense in a second release.

No, it made weight. It even put on a decent performance. It's just that not enough people cared...I call it the Matt Lindland effect.

And guess what? It's up for Best Individual Sports Game in the Spike VGAs. The others are Undisputed 2010, Shaun White Skateboarding & Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11. So it's not all doom.

When I played the demo I hated it, but a friend of mine had gotten really good at it. So I sat down with him and learned how to play it. I'll say that once you learn how to do everything, Alot of the game is better than Undisputed. The ground game may be more simplified at first, but after you get good at parrying and keeping your stamina up, The ground game becomes ALOT better than Undisputed...I like in EA MMA how you can actually go in with a game plan and execute it if you know what your doing.

I know a company that has a lot of influence with Spike, Im betting their game wins this category.

"EA Sports told us, 'You're not a real sport. We wouldn't touch this thing. We want nothing to do with this.'" "We put our asses on the line, THQ and the UFC, to make a video-game deal in the worst economy in the world," White told reporters recently. "We go out there and do this thing, and it's successful, and now [expletive] EA Sports wants to do a video game.[16]

Yeah EA struck out on this one. Although I do think they made a better game than undisputed.

And as fast as this article came out another has been released refuting it:
EA not tapping out: http://kotaku.com/5683408/far-too-soon-for-ea-sports-to-tap-out
More like a fan just blogging but he does make some genuine points.

I thought the game was terribly made to be honest. I think a part of the reason it failed was because of how utterly unplayable the demo was.
