Three days after he lost the UFC lightweight title to Frankie Edgar at UFC 112, B.J. Penn said he believes he'll get an immediate rematch with Edgar, and that he'll be fighting for an opportunity to get the belt back within the next two months.

"The UFC contacted us yesterday, and I think they want to put a rematch together, so I think a rematch is in the works," Penn said Tuesday morning in an interview with 106.7 The Fan in Washington, D.C.

As someone who is not a BJ fan, I believe he deserves this rematch ASAP!

I know BJ prolly does not wanna make any excuses. I don't know if he was injured. What I do know is that BJ has takedowns, and one of the best bjj ground games in the biz imo. Every fight, BJ never uses his bjj anymore, and or does not want to finish without putting a good beating on first. His ground game is exciting and I hope he uses it to make for a better fight next time.

I am 100 percent sure that BJ should have won. Judges screwed up. BJ is my favorite fighter but i'd love it if both fighters had at least one fight before the rematch.

I think this makes sense, Shogun gets an immediate rematch for loosing a close decision in a title fight, the Champ should at least get the same treatment.

I can see how the fight might have gone to Edgar, but it should have been a split decision or at least 48-37 across the board. It was a tough fight to call and no matter who you thought won you have to understand that the judges scores mean they made a bad call.

Any way, I think BJ wins a rematch. Hopefully he'll use his ground game as someone mentioned above. If he wanted he could probably get on top of Frankie and end the fight quick.

I think Edgar would win in a rematch, due to his superior wrestling skills and ground control.

im surprised how little talk there has been of whether or not bj was injured, he definitely had his knee wrapped and looked stiff. i think he will be more aggressive, but keep the fight standing again, looking at a second or third round KO

how anyone can think edgar is the superior fighter and would be the favorite in a rematch is beyond me. he certainly didnt win that fight by beating bj, but by not losing to him

BJ deserves the rematch. With that said can BJ take edgar down and do damage? I think it will at least open up his stand up if the threat of a take down was there. I think the Diego fight lulled him into thinking his boxing alone can do the job. If BJ mixes it up he wins the rematch.

I can understand the scores being called into question but not the decision me and my friends all had Edgar winning 48-47 but it was so close i could understand the decision going to Penn.

That said i do believe BJ was injured and didn't perform how i thought he would and a healthy BJ is still definately my pick for this fight.

so what rounds do you think edgar won? and what makes you think edgar won those rounds (other than 5 of course which i think everyone agrees was Edgar)

You have to give BJ the immediate rematch based on the decision. If Edgar would have finished BJ, then they would have to build him back up. I had Edgar beating BJ 48-47, but it still feels weird he left with the belt.

Really any dominant champion who loses in a close decision should always get an immediate rematch IMO.

I did score the fight for BJ, I didn't think it was a complete robbery, but I did disagree. I also really thought something was up with BJ too. I've never seen the guy be boring or inactive, and he just seemed to be totally detached and unconcerned with the fight for some reason.

if they are going to rematch right away i hope it's really soon. I totally think BJ should get an immediate rematch but I can't help but think it'd make the division a little more entertaining if they both had at least one fight first before meeting again but that is selfish of me. BJ should get his shot right away.

I think some of you forget BJ has in the past ALWAYS had questionable conditioning, his last few fights he's been in top shape however old habits die hard and styles make fights.

Edger has always had very fast hands, good tdd, good conditioning and also he's always been overlooked. I dont think you can do so anymore and lets not forget he beat Sherk with basically the same game plan, keep it standing and out score him. I think he has improved a lot in the last few years and until he fights a better wrestler I think he can keep the belt.

Its not a fluke and I just dont see why BJ deserves a immediate rematch more than any other champ that lost a close fight, so my only complaint is that BJ should have to work his way back up the ladder with at least one win over someone. I would rather see him fight gray and have the winner fight Edgar than see it the other way around and I think the match ups are more exciting that way as well.
