I had it 49-46 Penn, but could've seen it 48-47 Penn.

I guess you don't have to beat the champ to be the champ anymore.

I had 48-47 Edgar, watched it 3 times, I thought the first 2 rounds were almost too close to call, but after watching agin and again,I gave BJ the first 2 rounds.

I dont think anyone can say BJ won the fight, landing the occasional jab is not going to win you a fight....championship fight at that

I was surprised the fight went to Edgar, upon looking on Sherdog I thought I may have missed something especially reading the posts going into the 4th and 5th round a fair few people had Edgar winning but the PBP kinda had it the same way I saw it.
It was a close fight and haven't had chance to rewatched it but I saw as Penn taking the 1st 2 rounds the 3rd was close (though still thought Penn won) and Edgar took the last 2. I had it 3-2 to Penn and felt all though the rounds were close competative there was a winner of each round.

The judge that gave all 5 rounds to Edgar though was an idiot.

I had it 48-47 with Penn winning the first 3 for sure. I would have no problem with a 48-47 Edgar decision though. 50-45 and 49-46 for Edgar is just atrocious though.

Running in circles for 25 minutes landing practically nothing is good enough to win? Incompetent judging at its worst. Plus it was Edgar at his best fighting 25% of BJ Penn.

Once again another clear reason why fighters need to finish the fight within the alloted time limit because clearly the judges are not capable of making a decent decision. I have watched the fight over three times and each time I end up scoring 48-47 Peen at the worst. I understand that the fight was very difficult to score at the very least and honestly if the score was 48-47 Edgar I wouldn't have been all that disappointed, however, 50-45 and 49-46 is just unbelievable to me. As someone has already said, I guess running around and landing the occasional jab wins you a championship fight these days.

All in all its a pretty good shake up at 155. Sure this one will motivate Penn big time. I scored it 48-47 Penn, but i don't have a problem with Edgar winning it. Edgar went at it.

in my mind and from what i saw, penn was outclassed from the get go. edgar was way more energetic always circling penn, landing the key shots, never getting caught with anything major. Bj wasn't himself in that fight, I take nothing away from him ive always said it, im not a fan of the guy but i really enjoy to watch him fight. BJ even knew he lost the fight after round 5, he had that same look on his face and his body language was almost an exact replica of the fight he lost to GSP, even when the champ knows he lost the fight...i think it's pretty clear. The answer DID BEAT THE CHAMP

Running in circles? that was one of the best displays of footwork displayed in MMA, not kalib Starnes running from an opponent, thats the most uneducated thing I have ever heard, he was ATTACKING BJ, you cant win a fight if you dont attack.

I thought BJ won the first 3 rounds and Edgar the last 2. Everyone in the bar was surprised Edgar won the fight. With that said it was very close and BJ seemed to gas at the end. Why didn't he listen to his corner and take him down in the 4th? Could it have been the desert heat outdoors? Also, will be BJ get a rematch or have to fight Maynard first?

Shogun loses a decision to the champ, and Edgar does little and beats the champ???

Im not happy about this decision at all. Penn won the fight hands down. Did Edgar land one power strike???

I say immediate rematch, this time I think Penn would decisively get the W. Pnn didnt look like himself in this last fight..

I was a little shocked at the decision. It could have gone either way really. I do feel there aren't enough DRAWS in MMA though. This fight should have been a Draw. The current MMA scoring system isn't designed for MMA. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. It seems to me these judges are "Boxing and Wrestling people" anyhow. Well this isn't Boxing, nor is it Collegiate or Olympic Wrestling. It is MMA. The Judges are uneducated about MMA...now mix that with a scoring system designed for Boxing and you have a mess. The "Ten point must" scoring system is a joke in MMA. It really needs to go. Like I said...it could have gone either way. It was a close fight. It was so close that I feel giving either fighter a victory is an injustice to the loser and an injustice to the sport. I feel the Shogun/Machida fight should have been a draw too. Many a MMArtist has had their records ruined by the "10 point must" system. I think BJ lost his title due to it. I will give props to Edgar though! He fought a smart fight, showed good boxing skills and was clearly quicker than BJ. I did not see a decisive victory for either fighter though.

Im not shocked by these numbers at all. I though BJ clearly won the first 3 rounds and Edgar got the worst of the fight. I thought it was a horrible decision like it's been said to be the champ I suppose you don't have to beat him anymore. Not a hate on Edgar or anything this clearly falls on to the judges. 50-45 is unacceptable and something needs to be done with these judges that they have. I don't know how it works and no one pays me to know all i know is it needs to be fixed.
