For its latest brand expansion, Dana White is going back to his pre-UFC roots: Aerobics instructor. Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) today announced that it would soon unleash a global network of fitness centers dubbed, “UFC Gyms.” It’s being hailed in a recent press release as “the first major brand extension” for the promotion.

This could be a good or a very, very, bad thing.
If they could expand gyms with authentic teachers and great courses,it would be totaly worth it.
However, more than likely their will be one or two of these,(Probably in vegas),that will be great, then the extended branches will be watered down underachievements of physical fitness. The UFC goes Planet Hollywood.

OK I can't read the article at work due to filters.. but is this as gay as the title makes it seem.. are these going to be like Golds gyms and urban active?

Or are these going to be MMA training centers that the UFC is sponsoring.. The latter idea is not as bad as long as they focus on areas where there are already not a bunch of established gyms.

Sounds like it could easilly become a mcdojo. It sounds great in theory, as long as there are going to be qualified instructors. I just find that a lot of gyms that try and have a little bit of everything, are typically mediocre at everything.

Sounds like a place where everyone with an attitude will go and think they are a UFC fighter. Probably be over priced like over a hundred a month plus more for what ever classes they might offer or trainers. Once again a place were everyone with an attitude will go just to tell people I go to the UFC gym.

Yep I agree with the two posts above me. It doesnt seem like a good idea, some people already think MMA is UFC. Then people will be like I train in UFC, im a ufc fighter. Will also prolly be expensive because it is the UFC.

I just know at the school I go to we have some guys who take one or two classes and go around telling everyone they are a fighter. With a UFC gym opening up i can just see more and more people saying I train at the UFC gym I'm a fighter.

It doesnt say anything about them being mma gyms, it sounds like they are just going to be fitness centers with treadmills, weight machines, etc. I think theyre just using the UFC name to extend into a different industry.

Edit: Heres some more info on it.

"The fitness industry has gotten stale, much like the fight industry had gotten stale," White says. "A lot of it hasn't changed much since the 60s . a lot of the same equipment, a lot of the same stuff going on. We're going to have treadmills and weights for people who still want that, but there's going to be a lot of different things."

Those different things may include flipping tires, lifting chains, swinging sledgehammers or lugging bricks.

"If you look at the world today when it comes to training, everybody's starting to morph off into what I call nontraditional training," Mastrov says. "What UFC Gyms is going to do is leverage that."Link

ya I cant wait for this, suddenly everyone who does a few curls a couple nights a week "trains" . Its not lifting or working out or exercising (now that MMA is popular) its now considered training. I thought it was only training if you were getting prepared for something, but thats just me. So next time a guy asks you if you work out, say "no man i train"
