We all know the quality of Tuf contestants have been getting lower and lower with the exception of kelvin gastelum, but why? My theory is that with the explosion of mma came a whole lot of guys with unnatural ability and tried to become mma fighters but did not convert well. With exceptions of athletes that come from a good martial arts background, I really do think that is what happened. It's partly one of the reasons I stopped watching Tuf.

I gave up on TUF years ago. The fact that its so regular now without doubt has an impact on the talent I think. They can't churn out contenders and top talent if theres a new season every 4 months!
Also I think the top talent avoid it as they are bound in to long term low pay contracts, and theres also a sort of stigma that comes along with guys from TUF.
I honestly can't remember the last time I was impressed by a TUF winner.

John Dodson? Kelvin Gastelum looks to be a solid prospect. The jury is still out about Chris Holdsworth.

I honestly don't think they need Tuf anymore, they sign 5 guys a week it seems like.

everybody and their brother is doing MMA these days. I think the market has been flooded with sheer numbers and everybody wants a shot at TUF because they know win or lose they will probably get another shot in the octagon.

There's more to TUF than signing new talent though. It's television advertisement for an upcoming PPV event with the coaches, as well as a vehicle for introducing people to the UFC. It will always seem more valuable to Zuffa than the viewers for those reasons. It definitely needs to be revamped, but I don't see it going away anytime soon.

I still enjoy TUF and I think it produces some solid talent. Guys like John Dodson, Dennis Bermudez,TJ Dillashaw, Kelvin Gastelum, Luke Barnatte, Clint Hester, Myles Jury, and Michael Chiesa are a few newer contestants that are having success in the UFC.

the last time I watched tuff was when Rampage and Rashad were coaches. I thought it was down hill then. I can only imagine what I would think now.

I think more of the talent is getting signed up from the likes of Bellator, WSOF, One FC, compared to earlier seasons. I have pretty much given up on it but will make an exception for TUF 20, which is a bit of an anomaly, with a title on the line for the winner.

I still watch each episode for the potential talent but for every Dobson or kelvin we get there are 8 or 9 guys not quite there yet. With international. They really don't have anyone multiple seasons going at once is too much
Just go back to two seasons a year

TUF generally produces 1.5 good fighters per season.
